Dew Droplets, Garden Bouquet and Just Baked Bread

1 A typical Autumnal morning today, with spiders’ webs everywhere all covered in tiny dew drops that look like miniature bubbles when you zoom in on them.

2 The garden still has lots of colour and I’ve cut some flowers for indoors, Sweet peas, Fuchsia, Japanese Anemones and Ceratostigma Plumbaginoides

3 This beautiful loaf has been baked in a terracotta bread crock made by Harry Juniper of Bideford.

Last Night’s Moon, Rider and Special Corner

1 Coming away from St Ives last night, the Harvest Moon was lighting up Porthminster Beach, making the waves look quite ethereal.

2 It was lovely to see this little rider out with her Mum and big brother.

3 There is a special corner in one of my favourite shops (the one with the beautiful staircase) designed to keep the children happy while parents are trying on clothes.

Harbour Wall, Pop-up Art and St Ives

1. I love the pattern of stones in the harbour wall and the reflections in the empty harbour.

2. The Splash Festival is on in Falmouth and lots of shops have pop-up art in them – paintings and sculptures by local artists. I was delighted to find this gorgeous unicorn in the shop where I bought my ‘going away’ outfit 46 years ago! The artist is Suzanne Crooke. The beautifully decorated Beach hut is also hers.

3 We went to St Ives tonight to see the wonderful John Cooper Clarke and laughed all evening, though there were of course, moments of poignancy too. How he remembers all the words, I just don’t know. St Ives in the early evening light was very lovely.

Sweet Peas, Spider and Swan

1 The Sweet peas are lasting well despite the sudden drop in temperature. I love their colours against that beautiful crisp blue sky.

2 I know you don’t all like spiders but this is a beauty and look at the intricacies of all the webs he’s been working on. I’ve tried to identify him but haven’t been successful. Any ideas? He was in the bottom of an old flowerpot.

3 This swan came straight for us as we got out of the car near the river in Hayle, expecting to be fed I expect.

The Milky Way, Twins and Lemon Marmalade

1 Wheal Coates is on one of our favourite walks and some of you will have seen photos of it before. This wonderful photograph of Wheal Coates with The Milky Way behind it, was taken by a local photographer, Tim Martindale, and I have his permission to use it tonight. Isn’t it a stunning photograph? In my preview I have to click the title to see the photo. Please do – it is worth it!

2 We have spoken to both our twins today as yesterday and today are their birthdays. L said the loveliest thing “Happy Birthing Day to you, Mum” No-one has ever said that to me before; I haven’t ever thought it. Now that L is a Mum herself, she knows!

3 I have made Lemon Marmalade this afternoon as L&T gave us 15 lemons yesterday. It is the most beautiful pale golden colour and carries the date of L’s birthday which I shall find a pleasure each time we open a new jar.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Inside

This is one of my favourite “Inside” photos. It shows the contents of the case that I took to South Africa when we went volunteering in a village called Mapoch. The stacking cups and the wooden beads were toys which our own children had played with many years ago.

Inside my case

The subsequent photos show some of the toys we took being played with by the children in the pre-school. We went to help build an extra classroom and to work with the teacher and the children. It remains one of the best things I have ever done. The village and the people will be a part of me forever.

Sadly I lost all my photos from the trip but I did keep a diary so these photos are from the diary and are therefore not the best quality.

Gourd Tunnel, A Jay and The House That Moved

2 The Jay hung around long enough for a photo this morning. They are usually so skittish that photos are impossible.

3 In Exeter again today, we saw ‘The House That Moved’. Dating from the 14th Century, it was about to be knocked down to make way for a road in 1961 but someone had the bright idea of moving it so that’s what was done. Read all about it here and see more fascinating photos of the move about 90 meters up a hill.

Birthday Lunch, Oak Daisy and Fairy Circle

15 Sep

1. It’s L’s birthday next week and we took the family out for lunch to celebrate. Her choice of dessert was Chocolate Fudge Cake with Salted Caramel Ice-cream – with a candle!

2 T, a tree surgeon, found a beautiful piece of oak which he has sliced and made into a flower.

3. In T and L’s garden there are lots of mushrooms, almost a complete fairy circle which is delightful.

Dinosaur, Onions and Boots to Order

1 The post brought a small package this morning – a delightful present of a Growing Dinosaur from a friend for J our Grandson. He will love this which we will have great with on his next visit, maybe half-term or Christmas as he started school this term! Thank you very much L and B, so thoughtful and generous and much appreciated.
