Hellebores, Iain Crichton Smith and A Thank You

In a neighbour’s garden we saw more signs of Spring, Hellebores, delicate and lovely.

I discovered another poem that appealed to me today – the last two lines sum up the way I ‘look about me and about me without end’  finding the beautiful things that are all around us.

THE WORLD’S A MINEFIELD
—Iain Crichton Smith

The world’s a minefield when I think of you.
I must walk carefully in case I touch
some irretrievable and secret switch
that blows the old world back into the new.

How careless I once was about this ground
with the negligence of ignorance. Now I take
the smallest delicate steps and now I look
about me and about me without end.

You may remember that I sent some SallyBoots to Germany a couple of weeks ago for our new Grand Niece. Today we received a photo of  her looking lovely in her new boots.

Moss, Hydrangea and Sally-boots,

The moss is very brightly green along Lovers’ Lane, our quick circuit walk.

There are still some beautiful Hydrangea flowers in a neighbour’s garden.

I’ve been knitting some little boots for the newest member of our family, a Great Niece born just before Christmas. We’ll post them off tomorrow.

Birthday, Sally-Boots and A Football Game

It is our oldest Live-wire’s birthday today and he has requested Grannyburgers for his family birthday tea tonight! Grannyburgers are Arlene’s Longanisa shaped into small burgers rather than meatballs and they go down a storm! The recipe is here on Arlene’s blog should you wish to try them. I was really touched that these were his choice of the day.

It has been an indoors day today and I have finished a pair of tiny Sally-boots for C’s new baby due soon.

Rooting about in Mum’s desk to find something else I came across several little games. Do you remember these? This one is rather special being about football. Most were number or letter puzzles.

Milk Flower, Rainy Day and Sally-boots

This morning I added some milk to beaten eggs for breakfast and a beautiful milk-flower appeared.

Good friends are soon to become grandparents and so I decided to make some Sally-boots for the new arrival. I made them with the multi-coloured wool I used for Live-wire T’s balaclava but knitting something so small, one boot turned out blue, green and yellow and the other in pink , orange and purple making a somewhat quirky pair of boots!

I found more-or-less the same start point for the wool and made two more so now the new baby can have two quirky pairs or two pairs of matching boots!IMG_9279

Dusting, New Yarns and Knitting Patterns

I must be very much better! I am noticing dust. Today I used our pretty duster!

I went to my favourite wool shop, Knitcraft,  today and bought some more of the glorious rainbow wool to make more baby sets for Tanzania.

While I was there I saw some purple, white and green yarn so , of course, I had to have it. Once home, I just had to start knitting with it!

For all those who have been asking, I have today put up the pattern for Sally-Boots with lots of photos. Just go to the horizontal menu and hover over Creative Projects and there you will find the page or you could just use this link.  I have also reposted the pattern for the KniTZTanzania baby sets and photos, also under the same header or this link.  Happy knitting!

Lichen, Sewing and Sally-Boots

1   I love the colours and shapes of Lichen and found this growing on our, until now, beautiful arched Cedrus Atlantica Glauca. For some reason, it has not sprouted this year. We have planted Clematis to climb up the structure but are feeling very sad that it seems to have died.

2   My sewing project is coming on. I have attached all four panels to the duvet covers and I am now embroidering little bits to lift the design and to secure the panel more effectively.  Here is the Fox. I’m wondering whether to do a bit more than the stems and his nose.

View-Master, Knitting and Drug of Choice

1   My sorting continues – I think it will last a lifetime! Today I came across my View-Master, a toy I had when I was nine or ten. It is a three dimensional viewer into which you add discs with tiny pictures. You click the handle and a scene comes into view.  I’m thinking these had something to do with my love of/interest in Italy, The Pyramids, Japan  and lots of  other ‘exotic’ places. There is one of Cornwall too but I was living in Cornwall at the time though we didn’t have a car so many of these places were as unknown to me as Italy or Japan!

2   I made a pair of Sally-boots for a special baby due soon and today I heard that he has arrived safely. I shall post these tomorrow.

Bee, Fly, Knitting and ShelterBox

1   I fed a tired and possibly cold, bee some sugar syrup this morning and we were very relieved to see it fly away later on. Look carefully and you can see it drinking from the spoon.

2   A fly settled on the tarpaulin I was working on this morning. I have never seen one like it with its orange patches on the wings and orange tipped feet. I have tried to look it up and would be delighted if someone could identify it for me.

Our lovely neighbour’s niece is expecting her first baby any day now and the first size Sally-boots are ready.

I have mentioned Nepal in my last two posts. I just heard that our Cornish based charity, ShelterBox, is on the ground already and assessing how they can help. They had a deployment of boxes in the area so will be able to provide help quickly. They are a wonderful charity. Look them up here . I am so deeply moved by this tragedy having fallen in love with the place and its people on our visit in 2013. Here is the Durbar Square as we saw it and a photo from ShelterBox.
