Being Happy, Wonderful Words and A Sunset

1   What a wonderful ambition! I do love Linus!

Outrageously happy

2   I find these words of Ann Druyan, Carl Sagan’s wife, incredibly moving.

“When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me-it still sometimes happens-and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again. Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don’t ever expect to be reunited with Carl.
But, the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a final parting. Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous-not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural. We knew we were beneficiaries of chance. . . . That pure chance could be so generous and so kind. . . . That we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and the immensity of time. . . . That we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me and it’s much more meaningful. . . . The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family, while he lived. That is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday. I don’t think I’ll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful. – Ann Druyan

Sweetpeas, Gladioli and Agapanthus

1   In our garden, I have the very tall pan-stand that was in the kitchen since I was a little girl. We used it ourselves for pans in our last house but have no room for it now. Last year I grew the runner beans up it but they really needed more light so this year we have the Sweet peas climbing up it and they are doing well. Mum would have loved the idea!

3   Our Agapanthus seem way behind everyone else’s but they are coming at last and are a beautiful, rich dark purply blue which I love.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus – on ice-cream

Just thought this might appeal, the important item, the ice-cream, being in focus, with St Michael’s Mount behind and all out of focus!

Words, Martin Luther King Jnr and The Dalai Lama

As an English teacher, words matter to me! This display was in my classroom and given the potentially very disturbing news re Syria from our Government, one of the quotations, that by H.C.Longuet-Higgins, seems particularly apt.

Buckets and Spades, A Message and A White Petunia

1 An un-natural quiet descended upon us this morning as the family left at 7.30am. We’ve been busy putting all the Grandkidlet equipment back in the loft and the beach stuff back in the shed.

Baby Sitting, Wedding Anniversary and a Walk

1   We are not really allowed to call it ‘baby-sitting’ but we have had the Grandkids to ourselves for 24 hours to give their Mum and Dad a welcome break! We’ve had the loveliest time and to wake up to little voices calling, “Can we get up now, Granny?” is a delight, happening as it does, only rarely! We made Pain au Chocolat for breakfast together.

2  It’s our 46th Wedding Anniversary today! We gave our parents 6 weeks notice of our intention to marry and no-one turned a hair! I made my dress and the bridesmaid dress for my little sister, she of the 60th birthday a couple of days ago, and Mum and I did all the catering, except for the icing of the cake which a friend did! We were awfully young!  I wore the Family Locket, of course.Wedding Day 26th August 1967

3    We had a lovely walk with the grandchildren and daughter No1 today, Skype with our son and his wife in Barcelona and then a meal out tonight with family – what a beautiful day to celebrate 46 years together!

Colours, Cabinet of Cornish Curiosities and Clematis

1    One of my favourite shops in Truro, the fabric shop, also delighted J who loved all the coloured ribbons.

2   The Wildworks’ Cabinet of Cornish Curiosities is still in the Museum in Truro and T loved opening the drawers to find what was inside. Her favourite was the drawer with all the coloured plastic pieces found on Cornish beaches.
