Splashing, Sailing Ship and Sculpture

1. We had lunch out today and then strolled through Falmouth where Grandbaby T loved splashing in the puddles.

2. The yacht with the tallest mast in the world is in Falmouth Harbour after being refurbished in the shipyard here.

3. This remarkable ceramic sculpture was in a gallery window. I needed much longer to look at it!

Christmas Tree, Reflections and Warsaw Angel

1   In a village just up the road from our town, there is a lovely Christmas tree full of enormous baubles.

2   The tide was in as we started to sing this morning and the water was very still so there were beautiful reflections. Within two hours there was such a hailstorm we couldn’t see across the river at all.

3  Another of our angels was bought in Warsaw and is really quirky! I think she’s gorgeous!

Email, Card and Mural

1    I received a lovely email from one of the Cor Serenata thanking me for the book I sent and looking forward to The Inglehearts’ reciprocal visit to Port Talbot next year.

2   This card has been on the dresser for a few days brightening my days. It came from a very good friend left behind in Yorkshire when we came back to Cornwall nearly 6 years ago and it was a real joy to receive. A is one of those special people who you might not be in touch with or see for months but the moment you are together, the time falls away and there you are again, warm, happy and safe in each other’s company.

Inside it says, '...the way thoughts of you brighten mine!'

3   At the hospital today (just for Visual fields tests as my Dad had glaucoma) I found the other delightful mural by Peter Wright. This one is called, ‘Falmouth Working Boats’ and is about 3 meters long. To see the first one if you missed it, click here.

Front Doors, A Visit and Two Murals

1   In Penryn this morning I was struck by how many lovely front doors there were. I especially love the one with the apple tree in a pot and a bucket for a hanging basket.

2   We went to visit a good friend in hospital today and were delighted to find him looking well and in good spirits prior to his operation very soon.

3   There were two delightful murals in the hospital, one ceramic of Custom House Quay, made as it turned out by a mutual friend, Peter Wright, and we didn’t know until J told us. The other was in fabric and made by children in the hospital schoolroom, colourful and personal.

Singing, Cake and Thoughtfulness

1   We had our usual singing this morning, rehearsing for our Gig tomorrow evening,  followed by a singing workshop with delicious cakes made by several members of the choir.

All that and the view of the Penryn River outside. Bliss!

2   The cakes were truly scrumptious! Thanks to all who baked.

3   I love the flowers and the mosaic which cheer visitors to the hospital.

Waterbirds, Comfort Food and A Present

1    After choir, I was catching a quiet moment by the side of the river when I saw a fat, gingery looking bird with enormous webbed feet perched on a rusty buoy.  Though it had something of the Cormorant about it, I didn’t really recognise it and only discovered that it was a very young Cormorant when I checked it online.

2    There are times when only comfort food will do! My CF of choice this lunchtime was Semolina with Jam, proper nursery food and made in a moment and with Strawberry Freezer Jam at the ready in the freezer.  I was enchanted by the ice-crystals on the jam so had to wait to have my pudding until I had taken this photo!

3    Our Christmas present arrived form America this afternoon having had some contretemps with the Customs Office for some unfathomable reason. It is a beautiful bread basket with a clay insert which you heat in the oven and then it keeps the bread warm as long as necessary. It is both beautiful and useful thus satisfying the words of  William Morris –

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”.

India Holiday continued – Raja Mahal, Orchha

This palace in Orccha, built in the 16th century by King Rudra Pratap, has the most amazing paintings telling the stories of Rama and Krishna.

Lots more holiday photos to come!

Penryn River, Miss Peapod’s Cafe and Guest Posting

1   I go to Penryn every week to sing with The Suitcases and this beautiful view never fails to move me! We are so lucky to be living in this most beautiful county.

2    An artist (whose name I must find out) has been working on these mosaics around the door and the windows of Miss Peapod’s Cafe which is where we all gather after singing for coffee, delicious homemade cakes, perhaps Poached Egg with Spinach on Toasted Ciabatta or even, as this morning for Claire and Mandy, a full English breakfast!

3    One of the blogs I read is by a 16 year old in Australia who is the most amazing cook. She is in Year 11 and has exams coming up so has to give her time to study. She has invited Guest Bloggers to blog on her space Go Bake Yourself during this time and I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen by her! I now have to choose between Chocolate Torte and Lime and Ginger Cheesecake, both of which I am making soon for our Family reunion party in July.
