Marrow, Smiley Bus and Baskets

Last night as we came home quite late we found this beautiful marrow on our doorstep – from Sue-next-door’s allotment. Thank you. Now to find a new way to cook it! Marrow and Ginger Jam was a family favourite. I shall have to look up the recipe.

I love our new Cornish buses. As they approach they seem to be smiling and each one makes me smile back!

3    There are beautiful hanging baskets all over our town, brightening up the streets.

This may not seem to be a beautiful thing but it is in that it takes away all the uncertainty – I have my date for my second Hip Replacement operation – August 19th.
This is a very good date as all the family will just have left after a 10 day holiday with us, D&A&NM from Barcelona, KJ,J&T from London, L&B from Norfolk and M from Exeter. We will have all our four together which hasn’t happened for almost two years so it is very exciting.  It is also more than 12 weeks before Christmas so I will be back, all singing and dancing for that celebration when we are hoping that the whole family will be together again as the Visas needed by the Senegalese contingent of our family are for 6 months. Big smiles all round!

Ladybird, Headband and Little Hoodie

There was a Ladybird on the Borage this morning.

Littlest Live-wire, her Mum and our eldest daughter all arrived last night to meet up with The Best Beloveds – the house is filling up! Daughter No 2 will arrive tomorrow evening with her Live-wires. Let the fun begin! Here is the hair band I made last week in situ.

Despite the mist obscuring the sea this morning we went down to the beach for Littlest Live-wire to play in her “massive sandpit”. In this photo she is wearing a Clothkits hoodie that I made for our eldest about 40 years ago! Each of our four wore it, J, Live-wire 2 wore it a couple of years ago and it is still going strong!

Together Again, Nostalgia and Poems

1    We all met in the car park at Perranporth – it was eight years since I had seen my sister-in-law and immediately it felt like yesterday!

Delight in being together again

2   After playing on Perranporth beach (the rain stopped as P&V arrived) and Cornish  pasties for lunch, we did a nostalgic drive to see places from our childhood. The beautiful cottage in Penwartha was one of our homes. We remembered the apple orchard, the daffodils, the slow-worms my older brother collected and being late for school despite the school being two minutes away!

We used to live here when we were little

3   We then went into Truro to see the beautiful Cathedral and for old times’ sake as we lived in the city for many years. Lemon Quay was full of lovely poems, taped to trees and lamp-posts and to a bicycle. I particularly liked this one

Sweet Potato, Roast and Mario Balotelli (and a Gift)

1    This sweet potato has been roasted ready to use in a recipe, such a beautiful colour.

Sweet potato, roasted

2    I prepared this beautiful Sweet Potato and Chestnut Roast this afternoon, ready for one of our meals during our family reunion week together. It is now in the freezer.  I’ll put the recipe up soon.

3   As  I am writing, Mario Balotelli has just scored the most beautiful goal for Italy! He’s now in line for the Golden Boot! That makes me smile!

4   For Nia, http://photographyofnia.com/ for your birthday! Two photography sites you may not have found: http://russelrayphotos2.com/  and  http://photonatureblog.com/2012/06/27/amazing-sky-post-number-300/

Enjoy! They both post beautiful photographs that I hope you will like.

Garden Wall, Baking and Meeting the Neighbours

1   At last it stopped raining and we were able to give the garden wall its first coat – on its way to becoming beautiful.

Before

After

2  This afternoon I made the Lime and Ginger Cheesecake and put it in the freezer ready for the family reunion in July.

3   More cooking this evening as I went across the road to a Pampered Chef Party where two super dishes were demonstrated but the highlight of the evening was meeting so many of the lovely people in our road whom I had never met before. The Chef showed us how to make this fabulous Mediterranean Vegetable Ring (which I shall be making and putting onto the Recipe pages before too long) and then we were able to eat it! Delicious!

Penryn River, Miss Peapod’s Cafe and Guest Posting

1   I go to Penryn every week to sing with The Suitcases and this beautiful view never fails to move me! We are so lucky to be living in this most beautiful county.

2    An artist (whose name I must find out) has been working on these mosaics around the door and the windows of Miss Peapod’s Cafe which is where we all gather after singing for coffee, delicious homemade cakes, perhaps Poached Egg with Spinach on Toasted Ciabatta or even, as this morning for Claire and Mandy, a full English breakfast!

3    One of the blogs I read is by a 16 year old in Australia who is the most amazing cook. She is in Year 11 and has exams coming up so has to give her time to study. She has invited Guest Bloggers to blog on her space Go Bake Yourself during this time and I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen by her! I now have to choose between Chocolate Torte and Lime and Ginger Cheesecake, both of which I am making soon for our Family reunion party in July.
