Dove Cote, Letterbox and Alfred Wallis

1   I went to Trowan, near St Ives, for a wedding run-through today and saw a delightful dovecote.

2   At Folly Farm, on the way to Trowan, was a charming American-style mail box that made me smile.

3   We went to Tate St Ives after I had finished my meeting where we saw two Alfred Wallis pieces that I had never seen before. I love his work. Click here if you would like to find out more about this Cornish artist.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Work of Art

We visited Tate St Ives today. Here are two photos – the first of Art in Architecture as Porthmeor Beach  is reflected in the curved glass of the award- winning gallery, and second, the same beach  seen directly  as Art in Nature. It is stunning either way on a gloriously sunny day as we caught it between the showers.

Falmouth, Dracaena Palm and Knitting

1   Falmouth from the water is another place! It’s lovely to see the world passing by and to see the prettily painted houses up the side of the hill. Click on any photo for detail.

2   We have been in this house for more than six years and this is the first year that the Dracaena Palm in the front garden is going to flower.

3   A friend who knows me well sent this little poster today. Knitting meter after meter for Wool Against Weapons as well as small things for the Grandchildren means that this is truer than ever!

Housework or knitting?

Thank you to Julia Marsh for these beautiful knitted cottages.

Brambles, Paws and A Poppy

1   Walking through the park to town today, the new growth on the brambles was positively glowing in the sun.

2   There is a beautiful dog at the optician’s and she kept still almost long enough for me to catch her very pretty paws on camera.

3   We now have lots of yellow poppies and this one’s frilly edges are tinged with pale orange – very lovely.

Carl Sandburg, Mist and Heroes

1   This beautiful little poem, ‘Fog’ by Carl Sandburg, which we both love, was on BBC Radio 4 today and brought back lots of lovely memories. What a fabulous metaphor.

The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
2   Coming home from a fabulous singing session tonight, heavy rain was falling onto hot roads and a fine mist was rising all along my route home. It was very beautiful and reminded me again of the poem we heard this morning.
3   Two very good friends have completed the Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend and have been raising funds for Prostate Cancer Research. How brilliant is that!?  Here they are at  Sunrise, 6am, Summit of Pen y Fan. Well done both of you. I am in awe!

Sailing, Two Castles and Happiness

We went out sailing today with our very good friends P&A and what a day it was! From previously only pootling around in the training boat to full-on sailing out of the harbour, out past Black Rock, Pendennis Point, past Gyllyngvase Beach to near Maenporth and back, this time against the tide and what fun, all the while getting to know our Skippalong with our lovely friend P talking us through what was going on.  There is a very special kind of quiet when you are sailing, just the wind and the water – magic. There’s a special kind of happy exhaustion at the end of the day too!    Click on any photo in the gallery to see detail.

3   The pile of pieces for Wool Against Weapons keeps growing, thanks to my friends who are knitting too. Two more pieces have joined the pile, one from Marilyn and one from Margaret so we are now up to ten. We are going to start joining them together soon, prior to our knit-in in Truro soon.

Ten pieces in the pile -seven more on the way.....

Echium, Artist and Falmouth Harbour

1   After a fabulous singing session today, the lovely Mr S met me and we went off to Falmouth. The park that we walked through was full of Echiums. They are at least 6′ tall, flower only once every three years and they seem alive with the buzzing of the bees. The other plant, the yellow one, just as tall is new to me. Any ideas?

2   After visiting our boat, we sat on the harbourside with a cool glass of wine and watched the world go by. A young artist was at the table beside us and was happy for me to take a photo of her sketch and the people she was sketching.

Copper Beech, The Other Granny and Fish ‘n’Chips

1   Next door’s Copper Beech is in full leaf and with the sun shining through this morning looked absolutely glorious.

2    What a delightful afternoon I have had! Driving through wild-flower-filled lanes to Perranporth to meet Grandbaby B’s other Grandma, sitting together on the front in sunshine, chatting about this and that and collecting Brenda‘s knitted contribution to the Wool Against Weapons 7 mile long scarf! That now makes 9 pieces ready to sew together. Thank you!
A lovely afternoon with photos taken by Judy, someone kind enough to take our photos and who commented how lovely it was to be overhearing the conversation of two very happy people!

3    We bought fish ‘n’ chips in St Agnes this evening and took them up to the Beacon to watch as the sun slid into the sea. As we came home the full moon was rising just behind the garden.
