Weekly Photo Challenge – Curve

Finding the beautiful in our lives and sharing the love has become even more important today as my country, to my utter dismay, has voted to leave the EU. Here is a curve that I hope will make you smile.

This second photo is of a three year old hand feeling the texture of the Poppy bud.

With love to you all on this sad day.

Fish Teapot, Bee and Another Poppy

1   Actually, I have always thought this teapot is ugly! I inherited it from my beautiful and wise Mum, who died 21 years ago today, and  in whose family it was for years. There is a plate to stand it on or to serve the biscuits to go with the tea and the spout is the bigger fish swallowing a smaller fish. It made my Mum laugh and actually, today as I unwrapped it, I decided that I quite like it too!

2   It is good to see bees at the Lavender.

3   The White Poppies are beautiful underneath as well as from the top.

I am taking a break from blogging for a little while. It won’t be for long as I shall find it hard!  Stay well, stay safe, smile  and be kind to everyone you meet as you never know what goes on in other lives.

Twiddle-Muff, Cookies and A Poppy

I heard recently of a project to knit Twiddle-muffs, sometimes known as Sensory bands, for people with Dementia and they sounded like a really good idea so I set about making one. My lovely gentle MIL, Madeleine,  had Dementia and used to fiddle with bits of her clothing and I have made this one with love with her in mind and memory. I think she would have liked it. I have incorporated buttons and ribbons, inside and out ,and have added a little pocket as suggested by another knitter. There are lots of textures in the chosen yarns and the stitches used. Now I have to find a home for this one and the others in the making, maybe with Dementia UK for whom we held the concert in Trebah Gardens last week.

2   I baked 101 cookies this afternoon as we have some workmen coming to the house tomorrow for 3 or 4 days and I like to give them home-made cookies with their tea.

Brambles, Paws and A Poppy

1   Walking through the park to town today, the new growth on the brambles was positively glowing in the sun.

2   There is a beautiful dog at the optician’s and she kept still almost long enough for me to catch her very pretty paws on camera.

3   We now have lots of yellow poppies and this one’s frilly edges are tinged with pale orange – very lovely.

Father’s Day, Purple and Singing ‘Soldier’s Farewell’

1    Lovely cards and phone calls today for Mr S and my dear Dad (1916-2004) in my head all day.

2    Purple is one of my favourite colours (along with green – which with white, makes up the Suffragette colours, of which more in another post) Do click on the photo to see the furriness of the centre section, it’s so beautiful!

What’s left when the poppy petals have all dropped

Beautiful French Lavender

I wish you could smell this as well as see it – so lovely.

3   Singing tonight with the Treggies blew a touch of the blues away! We laugh, we sing and we sometimes cry! One song, ‘The Soldier’s Farewell’ is particularly moving and was, apparently, also sung by Cornish tin miners on the station as they were about to emigrate and leave their families far behind.

Flowers, A Treat and Toys on the Stairs

1   Heavy rain all night and I went out first thing to take these gorgeous photos of raindrops. Click to enlarge.

2    Today, Lucy and I used our Christmas present vouchers from KJ to have a massage each at St Michael’s Spa in Falmouth – beautiful smells and a great sense of relaxation.

3   While I was out, Mr S put the baby gates, the fireguard and the buggy back in the attic but he left the toys and the wet-suit that stay here on the stairs for me to see as I came in. Beautiful!

Opening Poppy, Runner Beans and Four Siblings

1  We’ve been watching this poppy and today it began to open.

2   We planted the runner bean plants today. We have no greenhouse so have to wait to buy the little plants and then hope for the best – middle of May is usually okay but does feel a bit risky this year.

3   I love these photos of me and my siblings that our Mum and Dad always had on display.
