Echium, Three Cornered Leek and Courgette

1   Along our road are a couple of Echiums in flower so that you can see how big and beautiful they are. (I showed you our baby ones a couple of days ago.) They hum with bees!

2      Down the lane there are masses of Three Cornered Leeks. If you look carefully, you will see the triangular stems.

3   I have planted our Courgette out today in mushroom manure to help them grow. I have protected it with a cane cage to keep the wind and the cats off.

Sunday 8th June

We’ve had a wonderfully restful and laid-back weekend (Thanks you so much, N,G & T) staying away in Bolanken Barn, a delightful holiday place for couples. Here is a Gallery of the weekend (See yesterdy’s post too) from Saturday night’s incredible sunset, our visit to Godolphin on Sunday morning and our observations of the wildlife –  chickens, sheep and our favourite dog, Kaia.  Click on any photo for the caption and detail.

Duck Eggs, Asparagus and Echium

1   The Cornish food market on Lemon Quay was very busy this morning and I bought some delicious Duck burgers which we have just had for supper. The Cornish Duck stall also had dozens of beautiful duck eggs in shades of pale blue and white.

2   It is Asparagus season. The stall was bursting with piles and piles of this most delicious vegetable.

Echium, Artist and Falmouth Harbour

1   After a fabulous singing session today, the lovely Mr S met me and we went off to Falmouth. The park that we walked through was full of Echiums. They are at least 6′ tall, flower only once every three years and they seem alive with the buzzing of the bees. The other plant, the yellow one, just as tall is new to me. Any ideas?

Can anyone name this plant for me?

2   After visiting our boat, we sat on the harbourside with a cool glass of wine and watched the world go by. A young artist was at the table beside us and was happy for me to take a photo of her sketch and the people she was sketching.
