Fishing, Cucumbers and Fennel in the Rain

1 It was lovely to be back singing again and enjoying the scenes outside by the Penryn River. This family were having great fun fishing.

2 Two of our choir friends have a glut of cucumbers, roundish, yellow and quite beautiful – thank you N&G.

3 I love the way the delicate fronds of the fennel collect raindrops like little jewels. Click on the photo and zoom in. You can see tiny reflections of the plant in some of the raindrops.

Le Petit Prince, Simple Supper and Wild Strawberries

1 I was first introduced to the beautiful story, Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, many, many years ago when I was in the 6th form and in France for a three week exchange with Josiane Fromage and her family in Toulouse. (Wouldn’t it be just brilliant if she, or someone who knows her, were to read this blog?) Finding this quotation, “One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye,” the Fox speaking to the Little Prince, has inspired me to read it again.

2 A simple supper tonight of enormous mushrooms stuffed with a vegetable and rice mixture, topped with cheese and served with a flower salad from our garden.

3 We found a few more wild strawberries in the garden today and had them with some delicious vanilla ice-cream in a little ramekin.

Book Swap Box, Old Oak Tree and Travelling Dog

1 This is the second time I have discovered an old Telephone box used for a book swap, this one in the village of Feock, the first place we lived when my family first moved to Cornwall when I was six years old. What a brilliant thing to do to save the box from demolition and I love the child’s chair in this one. To see the other one, click here.

2 We always enjoy the walk around Trelissick and I’ve always loved this old tree.

3 We followed this lovely dog and its car home and at the traffic light stop, he seemed to notice us. He had been loving the wind in his fur. If you look carefully, you should be able to see the sea on the horizon, on the North coast of Cornwall.

Baby Footprints, St Andrew’s Church and Singing

12 Aug

1 L and Grand-baby B went home today after their all-too-short but beautiful visit.Grand-baby B left her footprints behind on the slate mantlepiece where she was standing to laugh at the baby in the mirror. You’ll have to look carefully! There are the toes from one foot and the heel from the other.

2 The Ingleheart Singers had our weekly rehearsal, not in the usual place but at St Andrew’s Church in Redruth this evening in preparation for our concert there with Cor Serenata, a visiting Welsh choir, on Saturday evening. (If you are local you can get tickets from me or from the Health Food Shop on Bond Street! It’ll be a cracking night!) The altar cloth is a delight with the Ark and the animals depicted in embroidery and collage and the acoustics are amazing.

3 It was just wonderful to be singing with The Inglehearts again after a month of summer holiday. I so miss singing when we have a break. This weekend is going to be full of happiness with singing from Friday to Sunday! Joy!

Wesley’s Wise Words, Hummus and Dahlias at Dusk

1 A good friend sent me this quotation from John Wesley:

2 We harvested all the the rest of the broad beans today and blanched and froze most of them, just saving back enough for supper and for delicious Broad Bean Hummus for lunch.

Cosse Violette, Blue With Orange and Hair Jewels

1 We were able to harvest three kinds of beans today – Runner, French and Purple Climbing French Beans Cosse Violette, very beautiful but sadly they lose their rich purple colour when steamed. I just love being able to pick food from the garden and being able to eat it barely ten minutes later!

2 Cornish mist was mizzling when we went out to pick the beans and the light somehow intensified the complementary colours of the blue Agapanthus and the orange Crocosmia.

3 L and Grand-baby B are visiting for a couple of days and joined me in the bean harvest. Grand-baby B found the mist on her face very amusing and the little droplets looked like tiny jewels in her hair.

Cornish Coastal Walk 7

We had the most glorious walk from Mawnan Church yesterday. Come with me through the Churchyard to the fields and the coastal path and back through the woodlands – a day of beauty, peace and happiness.

Cornish Sunset, Waves on Fire and Cliffside Flowers

1 Yesterday, after I had posted, we went to the North Coast at Chapelporth for a walk as the sun was setting. The colours were wonderful, the setting sun lighting up Wheal Coates with a glorious glow.

2 As the sun was slipping into the sea, the light was catching breaking waves, creating the illusion of the sea being on fire.

3 Walking back from the cliff edges, the purple and pink heathers and the golden gorse were still lit by enough light to show their beautiful colours.

Clematis Fairy, Fine Shadows and Peacock Butterfly

1 I used to love finding fairies in the garden when I was a little girl and never being told that they were Clematis seed heads floating on the breeze. Today I found one in a bucket of water and was delighted with the subsequent unexpected photo.

2 The very last flower on the Pelargonium was caught in the sunshine today with the anthers making such a delicate shadow.

3 Of many photos taken trying to catch the fluttering butterfly, I eventually managed one as it took nectar from the lovely Heliotrope, otherwise known as Cherry Pie because of its delicious fragrance.
