Yesterday and Today

Saturday morning in town, the sun was shining and some leaves on the tree I’m watching are still holding on.

I’ve chosen another selection of the posters that hide our closed post office for you to see. They certainly brighten up that corner and give out positive messages about our town.

And today, the sun shone again and the wind had died down so we went to Trelissick  Gardens and had a lovely stroll around with the warmth of the sun on us. The view over The Carrick Roads was, as always, beautiful and a new doorway had appeared, leading through to the historic walled garden. You may not be able to read the blackboard  – it explains that they are going to replant the walled garden with fruit and vegetables again, a wonderfully positive project that we will follow with interest.

View, Primrose and Sarcococca

The view over the Carrick Roads from Trelissick is one of our all time favourites even on a grey day.

Spring flowers are emerging in ones and twos.

Single Primrose

As I walked around the paths there was the most delicious scent and I tracked it down to the tiny blossoms on the evergreen Sarcococca. We tried to grow this once having smelled its glorious perfume in the garden of friends in Ruthin, Wales but it died and we don’t know why.

Family Silver, Ice-Creams and Trelissick

Many years ago, when it was our Silver Wedding, my parents gave us some of the family silver from my Mother’s home. Our family are here to celebrate my (American)  brother and SIL’s Silver Wedding so I polished up some other family silver that I inherited and we gave it to P&V this morning. They were delighted and so were we to have made them happy.

Daughter No 1 has joined us today and we all went to Trelissick for lunch, to browse the Gallery and to have a walk. Ice-creams were, of course, on the menu.

The walk over the fields to the view out over the Carrick Roads is a joy and delights us every time. My favourite tree is here too, its tutu in full leaf.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Habit

It has become our habit to walk around the fields at the National Trust’s Trelissick Gardens on days when we don’t have time for a longer walk. We can combine the walk with a visit to the Art Gallery and a coffee in the cafe should we choose. The views over the creeks and the Carrick Roads towards Falmouth are very beautiful and always uplifting.

Book Swap Box, Old Oak Tree and Travelling Dog

1   This is the second time I have discovered an old Telephone box used for a book swap, this one in the village of Feock, the first place we lived when my family first moved to Cornwall when I was six years old. What a brilliant thing to do to save the box from demolition and I love the child’s chair in this one. To see the other one, click here.

2  We always enjoy the walk around Trelissick and I’ve always loved this old tree.

3   We followed this lovely dog and its car home and at the traffic light stop, he seemed to notice us. He had been loving the wind in his fur. If you look carefully, you should be able to see the sea on the horizon, on the North coast of Cornwall.
