Reflection, Pleasing Patch and A Truth

1    These little Tete a Tetes were broken off by the strong winds. I popped them into a little ink bottle, which we dug up from a Victorian bottle dump many years ago, and then realised that they were being reflected beautifully in the shiny granite work surface.

3     Below is a truth that I think many of you will recognise. Thank you to ajaytao for this and to Alastair for re-blogging it so that I could make a new blogger-friend.

sometimes-when-i-say-im-okayIf you haven’t seen my last post, please visit it and watch the video. It’s not beautiful but it is something we should all know about. Thank you.

Greens on a Branch, Secret Garden and Cardigan

1    Beautiful moss, lichen and little ferns were growing on this tree at the Bodmin Herb Nursery where we went to get new herbs to refresh our herb wall. I love all the different shades of green against the vibrant blue of the sky.

2    Over the wooden bridge is a secret garden, very overgrown and very enticing. I wonder if a troll lives underneath the bridge………

Walk Around Mylor – Graveyard, Boatyard and Harbour

Such a beautiful bright but bitterly cold day – perfect for a walk around Mylor. I love the Graveyard and the water and the lovely Mr S takes great delight in wandering around the boatyard.  The propellers on the boats caught my eye – I had never realised how many kinds there are!  Do read Joseph Crapp’s gravestone carefully! There is a marina here with some very expensive yachts (many of which are up in the boatyard for the winter) and also many working boats.

Click on any photograph for an enlargement. You may need to for the wording on the gravestone.  If you’d like to see more of the fascinating old gravestones in Mylor Churchyard, have a look at this post from last year.

Blue House, Blue Sky and Blue Boots

1    In Penryn today, this shiny blue drainpipe caught my eye, then the delightful folds in the shadow of the  Belisha beacon so I crossed the street to get a better shot of the whole lovely house. The door and the pipe are almost the colour of the deep blue sky behind and the unexpected beauty of it all took my breath away.

2   The grey branches and the soft green leaves of the Eucalyptus tree looked so beautiful against the bluest of skies.  How we have missed blue skies over these last few grey months!

3   I’ve just finished some second size boots which should fit our nearly-due Grandchild in the Autumn as the weather is getting colder again. The matching cardigan is almost done.

Seed-Head, Bell Tower and Snowdrops

1    The birds have been enjoying the seeds on the fennel. There aren’t many seeds left but the heads are still beautiful.

Suitcase Singers, Dancing for One Billion Rising and Valentine Baking

1    First it was singing which was wonderful! Beautiful choir-babies, all buns sold, I met A, the baby I showed you yesterday and we learned Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’ a capella (as all our singing is) in four parts – hard work, great fun and very satisfying indeed  and afterwards……

2    We danced! We were some of the One Billion Rising protest that invited women all over the world to dance today to highlight violence against women and we danced in the Jubilee Wharf Courtyard outside Miss Peapod’s Cafe.

3   This afternoon  I’ve baked the most amazing cakes using fresh eggs, brought to choir this morning by G, as he does each week.  He also brought, especially for me, some beetroot which he pulled up only this morning as I had mentioned last night that I wanted to try making a Chocolate and Beetroot Cake for Valentine’s Day. How much fresher a cake could you have? I’ll put the recipe up later if anyone would like it. It’s so delicious and moist and very chocolatey! If I hadn’t told about the beetroot, no one would guess!

Les Miserables was brilliant! We all enjoyed the film enormously.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my readers!

Raindrops, Baking for Comic Relief and Les Miserables

1     The good thing about the almost incessant rain is that I can take some of my favourite shots -macro raindrops!

2    I’ve been baking for Comic Relief again. As it will be Valentine’s Day tomorrow I’ve made some heart shaped cup cakes. I’m not sure I like the deeper pink! I’m not really a pink sort of person!

3   Posting early today as we’re meeting a friend to see Les Miserables tonight. (N, we are looking after G as promised while you gad about NZ!)

Thank-you Card, Wise Words and Pancake Day

1   The post today brought a thank-you card for the Sally-boots I knitted for the baby born on my birthday. He is so gorgeous!

2   I came across this cutting from a newspaper from the 50’s which I found in Mum’s desk when I cleared it for polishing. What wise and timeless words indeed, especially, for me,  the last bit.

3   It’s Pancake Day. First we had Savoury Pancakes stuffed with chicken in a white sauce and we followed that tasty course with Boozy Crepes Suzettes – utterly scrumptious!
