Well, that was a difficult one – The World of Dickens, a real challenge! It’s taken us four weeks but the weather has been better so we’ve spent less time indoors. It was much harder than The World of Shakespeare which was our last one. 
This week’s narcissi from the GrowBox are very different, one bunch being blowsy and gorgeous, the other, clean and simple. I was told their names but have forgotten!
While in Tate St Ives last week, we bought a jigsaw in their fascinating shop and have spent a happy afternoon starting on its 1000 pieces.
This quotation from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien seems most apt as this New Year begins.
Every year on this day, I take a tiny posy of whatever is flowering in our garden as a little gift to remember our lovely neighbour, Bill-next-door whose birthday is today. This year there was a tiny violet, a primrose, alstroemeria and a sprig of rosemary for remembrance.

At our sorting office where we we posting a 16th birthday card for Live Wire 2, there was this delightful post box topper.
Just tried a new recipe for tomorrow’s cake for the volunteers – Banana, Chocolate and Almond Loaf. The mixture on the beaters tasted delicious so I hope the cake does too!

Our eldest daughter left after dinner last night and second daughter and family, including our lovely Guest Blogger, left after breakfast . Our son is still here and his twin sister and her daughter arrive tomorrow. It’s all go!
D is here to collect all his drums and other musical instruments including a Kora that he made himself and to take them all back to Barcelona. The bag for the Kora had a broken zip so off we went to the wonderful Make A Mends shop in town to get it fixed. It was done in moments!

S at the shop had recently made a beautiful pair of trousers out of old curtains and these were being bought by a young lady who will wear them at a wedding soon.

After another morning surfing with the surf school and an afternoon resting after their exertions in a rather wild sea, the most delicious dinner was cooked for us by LiveWire 2 (15 years old) this evening – Chicken in a special secret recipe sauce with silky smooth mash and Tenderstem broccoli and using home-grown shallots from our allotment.
This is what I am needing right now.
I thought you might like to hear my choir singing Kokoleoko but then I found an even more beautiful interpretation of the Liberian folk song. I really love this.
A very delicate Lacewing was on our windscreen and stayed there long enough for me to get a photo. And, as you can see, we have had blue skies today!
We were joined by an unusually coloured and rather pretty pigeon while we were waiting at the train station for two LiveWires and their Mum to arrive.
As always, our first stop was the beach, Porthtowan being a family favourite. The seas were still wild though the storm had passed, the winds were still strong and the Lifeguards had the red flag up, much to LiveWire no 2’s disappointment as he wanted to swim! It is such a delight to have some family here for a few days.
Another busy baking day – first a Chocolate Cake with LiveWire No 1 while the smaller ones were at Heartlands’ play park and then making the Crinkle cookies with LiveWires 5 and 6 – a feast tomorrow when friends are coming round for coffee and cake and to meet the family.
