1 Beautiful news about the safe arrival of Ionie, 3.4kg, in Munich, first baby for my nephew and his wife. I’ll have to get busy on the Sally-boots!
2 Today’s very beautiful rain-drenched flowers in our garden.

3 Finished reading ‘the earth hums in b flat’ by Mari Strachan, a delightful novel about growing up that begins “I fly in my sleep every night.” I loved that opening as I spent many of my childhood nights flying too! The novel is intriguing, full of childish misconceptions and a growing sense of self.

1 We went to the beautiful Potager Garden, Constantine, to meet a friend, to play and to have lunch. We wandered all over the place exploring, noting landmarks so that we could find our way back and hunting dragons. It’s a magical place for children (and their adults!)

Lunch was absolutely delicious, as always. Lots of the food is grown right there in the gardens. All the food is cooked freshly on the premises and is a treat for the eyes as well as for the taste buds!

2 There were flowers in abundance and Jake spotted the bee on the cornflowers.

3 This evening I’ve been to sing with the Three Choirs on a Ferry. All three of Claire Ingleheart’s choirs, about 100 of us, sang first in the courtyard in Trelissick Gardens and then we all, including our audience of about 200, walked down the hill to the King Harry Ferry where the choirs went on board, the audience on the slip way and we sang for an hour and were much appreciated by the friendly crowd which included KJ and Lucy, which was really lovely for me. Just as we finished we were all delighted to hear the beautiful sound of a pair of owls hooting to each other.

1 The Grandchildren are with us! That’s beautiful! Lots of lovely conversations and laughs. We introduced Jake to The Heligan Giant today and will take him to visit next week.

2 Our garden is delighting us, so many beautiful blooms. Click on any image to enlarge and see the detail, especially the poppy bud.

3 The red sky tonight was reflected on the windows over the road. Hopefully tomorrow will be another beautiful day.

1 The cream of tomato soup that Mr S made for our lunch looked so perfectly orange and beautiful.
2 We went for our favourite local walk from Chapel Porth up to Wheal Coates coming back to the beach cafe for a delicious hot chocolate and some homemade ginger cake (made by Rosie)
3 Singing with the Inglehearts for the first time in two weeks was overlaid with sadness as one of our singers, the much loved Mo, died last week and we were practising “You are my Sunshine” to sing tomorrow at her funeral. That was hard but it did us all good to sing and to remember her with some stories. We sang ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ in her honour as it was another of her favourites.

1 This morning I woke up feeling well! It has been a horrid few days feeling the effects of all the vaccines we’ve had for our trip to Senegal, so M.Eish – no energy, cotton-wool brain, muscle pains and general malaise -so quite scary. I’ve had my share of that so it was wonderful to wake up feeling good!
2 I’ve baked some Jewel Cookies. I found the recipe on a delightful blog by Go Bake Yourself which sent me back to http://www.ilovemilkandcookies.blogspot.co.uk/ for the original recipe called Lemon and Polenta Cookies. They’ve gone down very well with Mr S and Lucy.

3 I’ve planted some Lily-of-the-valley for my beautiful friend Kath who died last year. It is a tradition in France to offer a sprig of lily-of-the-valley (“muguet” in French) to loved ones on the 1st of May which is a Public Holiday in France, officially known as La Fête du Travail (National Labour Day) but also called La Fête du Muguet (Lily of the Valley Day).
Kath and Charlie loved France, had a home in Meyssac in the South and not a year went by when she either gave me a card depicting the flowers or a homegrown bunch, on one occasion bringing them all the way on the train from Yorkshire when we met up in London for a few precious hours. Now Kath has her own special place in my garden as well as, always, in my heart.

Iris Reticulata
1 I was delighted today when Mr S spotted this Iris Reticulata in the wall today – one of my favourite flowers, so small and so perfect.
2 We made the next 10 jars of marmalade today. It was fun to know that, at the same time, John R was busy in his kitchen also listening to good music and making marmalade! Both our kitchens are full of that beautiful golden glow of newly minted marmalade!
3 Quite a late walk today up and around Wheal Uny. It was very pleasing that it was still light at 5.30pm

1 I went to see Jo and her beautiful new baby daughter, Elowyn, and took the little jacket I’ve knitted for her.
2 Found the first primrose and the first periwinkle in the front garden this morning.
3 Started looking up flights to Senegal for Daniel and Ami’s wedding. This is getting exciting!

1 The Inglehearts sang their hearts out tonight at the late night shopping in Truro and the good people of Truro contributed £106.14 to The Phoenix Stroke Appeal. It was brilliant to be part of such a lovely group, making such a lovely sound!

2 Driving back from Falmouth where we had been to drop off some books (more culling – so hard to do), I spotted Daffodils in the hedgerow just outside Lanner! It’s December 7th!
3 There was a beautiful rainbow this morning over St Agnes Beacon. I think the pot of gold must have been in the sea.

1 Clematis still in flower and gorgeous. I also took photos today of nasturtiums, fuchsia, passion flowers and Kashmir lilies.
2 Despite the stormy showers and the occasional hailstone shower today, the sun felt warm on my back when I was out taking the photos.
3 Choir tonight was brilliant. I love it when we learn something new and have to work hard. Tonight it was a four part harmony for Gaudete which we’ll be singing to the public on Wednesday!

1 It’s Mum’s birthday. She always used to say that she’d come in to fireworks and she lived up to that!
2 I found a Passionflower in bloom today, noticed it from the window.

3 Watched fireworks from the bedroom window, lots of oohs and aahs!
