Hummingbird Legend, Apple Blossom and Home Again

1 ‘Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Like a hummingbird, we aspire to hover and savour each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of every day. The humming bird’s natural grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation. ” These words are on a card on my daughter’s fridge and they appealed to me and my own philosophy. They came to her on a Congratulations on Your New Baby card by Papyrus.

2. The apple blossom has come out in the few days I’ve been here.

3. I have had the loveliest days with L and her beautiful baby, enjoying the company of them both but now I am home and it is always lovely to come home. The blossom is out on the Malus and the horses are back in the back field which is quite delightful. Look carefully to see them at the far end of the photo.

Wrapping Paper, Hand-Made, New Baby and Birthday Honours List

1   One of my birthday presents this morning was wrapped in this beautiful old paper that belonged to my much-loved Sister-in-law who found it in her Mother’s things. It must be at least 60 years old. The present was beautiful too!

Very special wrapping paper

Very special wrapping paper – isn’t it delightful?

2   My daughter’s lovely partner has made me a stick for stomping through the countryside. It’s made of holly and is so smooth and very beautiful.

3   We have just had the lovely news of the safe arrival of the newest Grandchild of our good friends J&M. It’s a lovely day for a Birthday. Much of the world is celebrating at Midnight and when I was little I thought the Cathedral Bells of Truro Cathedral were ringing out just for me!

4   In the UK the Queen always gives out Honours on her birthday in June. I have been lucky enough to be nominated for Blog of the Year by Renee so, on my birthday,  I’m going to emulate the Queen by giving out some honours just before the year ends!  The rules follow at the end.

First then, thank you so much to Renee for giving me a third star – much appreciated.

These then are the blogs that I want to nominate for Blog of the Year 2012. Some of you I nominated for an award recently but that was more general. This is for a Star!  I do understand that some of you don’t accept Awards but just want you to know how much I appreciate your company in this blogging world and of course, some of you have probably arrived at 6 stars already!

And here are the rules:

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award.

Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.

Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/our-awards/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)

Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them

You can now also join the award’s Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience if you choose to

6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

Which means that you can check out your favorite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

New Grand-Niece, Rain Soaked Flowers and A Good Read

1    Beautiful news about the safe arrival of Ionie, 3.4kg, in Munich, first baby for my nephew and his wife. I’ll have to get busy on the Sally-boots!

2     Today’s very beautiful rain-drenched flowers in our garden.

Maigold, a rambling rose

Clematis Niobe, such a rich colour

3   Finished reading ‘the earth hums in b flat’ by Mari Strachan, a delightful novel about growing up that begins “I fly in my sleep every night.” I loved that opening as I spent many of my childhood nights flying too! The novel is intriguing, full of childish misconceptions and a growing sense of self.

Singing, Groucho Marx and Piano Playing

1   After singing with Sophie and the Suitcases this morning, I took the Sally-boots that I made this week to a friend for her new baby boy, Declan.

Sally-boots for Declan

2   I have been reminded this afternoon by of a quotation that pleases me.  Thank you,  Usha Pisharody

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.”
~Julius Henry “Groucho” Marx.

3   It’s been a long time since my last piano lesson but I have practised a lot since we came home from Senegal and today my lovely teacher said, with the first half of one piece, that I would have been given top marks if that had been the exam! Now I have to make the rest of the piece as good!

New Baby, Blogger Award and a Simple Supper

1   Work on the fence has stopped temporarily as our lovely landscaper became a Dad overnight!  Congratulations to D&P. I’ll have to get busy on a pair of Sally-Boots!

2    I’ve been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award!   Very pleasing. Check out the details here http://mybeautfulthings.com/versatile-blogger-award/ or by clicking at the top left of the page.

3  The simplest of suppers – Tomato and Mozzarella Pasta – delicious!

Bonus for today……

No 4  We’ve just seen Venus and Jupiter, seemingly very close together, in the night sky just above where the sun set. I’m told they are 3-4* apart and will be visible in our sky until Saturday if the skies are clear.
