Six on Saturday – Not My Garden!

I visited Trelissick Gardens this week for a walk around one of our favourite stomping grounds. I had hoped to find some early Daffodils but they aren’t ready to bloom just yet. There were, however, Snowdrops, Camellias, Magnolias and Azaleas in all their glory. Come for a walk with me……..

3.  Snowdrops – I wish I knew which ones these lovely tall ones are. Ours flower when they are barely out of the ground! Perhaps one of my lovely readers can help.

Daffodils, Squirrel and Tree Trunk

After lunch with a good friend at the cafe at Trelissick, I went for a stomp around the gardens. En route to meet S, driving towards Perranwell, I just had to pull over to get this glorious yellow display at the junction.

I watched this squirrel for quite some time as he darted across the grass and the path and back again. Here he has just come down from spiralling up the post, too quickly to catch on camera.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Habit

It has become our habit to walk around the fields at the National Trust’s Trelissick Gardens on days when we don’t have time for a longer walk. We can combine the walk with a visit to the Art Gallery and a coffee in the cafe should we choose. The views over the creeks and the Carrick Roads towards Falmouth are very beautiful and always uplifting.

Winter Walk Around Trelissick Gardens, Cook Books and A Gig

1   We thought of driving up to England to see the snow but decided instead to walk around Trelissick Gardens. The gallery which follows takes you on our walk. Click on any image to get a full screen photo.

2   I’ve been looking at my collection of Ambrose Heath cook books inherited from my Mum and with recipes that we still use. (See the Rhubarb one on my Recipe pages)  Some of the books are illustrated with delightfully quirky Edward Borden woodcuts.

3   We’re off out tonight to a gig by The Old Tire Swingers. We’re told they are “another great bluegress act all the way from the U S of A Influenced by the Appalachian string bands as well as their own Central California country roots, they play a style that’s somewhere between old time, bluegrass, and country.”

‘April Evening’, Spine Poems and A Red Onion

1   We had wanted to go to Trelissick today but the rain was so heavy, we decided to postpone that visit and I’ve made do with my beautiful limited edition lino print, ‘April Evening’ by Isobel Ellis instead – sheep on the hill and The Carrick Roads in the distance.

2   I’ve had a happy afternoon creating  Spine Poems which I recently came across through this Freshly Pressed  site. I googled the term and find they’ve been around for ages. I hope you like the following:

Potager Garden, Cornflower and Three Choirs on a Ferry

1  We went to the beautiful Potager Garden, Constantine, to meet a friend, to play and to have lunch. We wandered all over the place exploring, noting landmarks so that we could find our way back and hunting dragons. It’s a magical place for children (and their adults!)

Lunch was absolutely delicious, as always. Lots of the food is grown right there in the gardens. All the food is cooked freshly on the premises and is a treat for the eyes as well as for the taste buds!

3  This evening I’ve been to sing with the Three Choirs on a Ferry. All three of Claire Ingleheart’s choirs, about 100 of us, sang first in the courtyard in Trelissick Gardens and then we all, including our audience of about 200, walked down the hill to the King Harry Ferry where the choirs went on board, the audience on the slip way and we sang for an hour and were much appreciated by the friendly crowd which included KJ and Lucy, which was really lovely for me. Just as we finished we were all delighted to hear the beautiful sound of a pair of owls hooting to each other.
