We said Goodbye to Bill Today

Hundreds and hundreds of people came today to say goodbye to a much loved man. There was music and laughter, there were stories and tears, there were memories and tributes and there was an abundance of love. People met in the park, marched to a Cornish band up to the house where Bill was collected in his jewel like coffin and carried to the Church in the lee of Carn Brea, all accompanied by the band and a very lovely choir.  The WildWake was in a marquee by the beach in a howling gale where the musicians continued to play and the laughter and tears continued to flow and a marvellous shared supper was enjoyed.  I have been encouraged by Sue to show you the beautiful coffin, covered in paintings done by Bill’s friends, by Sue and one of Bill’s own pieces and to share the amazing procession with you.

A Funeral, A Baby Naming and Glass Art

1   It was a beautiful send-off for Mo this morning with a good number of laughs as her naughty sense of fun was remembered. Our singing of ‘You are my Sunshine’ was appreciated though the words have never seemed more poignant and we won’t ever sing it again without thinking of Mo. It was so good to have Claire Ingleheart with us returned specially from her work in London.

2   I spent the rest of the morning working on a Baby Naming Ceremony for Saturday – the welcoming into the world of another new life. The parents have chosen some lovely readings and their words are just beautiful.

3  I love these glass Agapanthus flowers which we bought in the Scillies a couple of years ago. Every time I see them, I remember our holiday. Unfortunately I don’t have the artist’s name.

Tomato Soup, Wheal Coates and Singing with the Inglehearts

1  The cream of tomato soup that Mr S made for our lunch looked so perfectly orange and beautiful.

2   We went for our favourite local walk from Chapel Porth up to Wheal Coates coming back to the beach cafe for a delicious hot chocolate and some homemade ginger cake (made by Rosie)

3  Singing with the Inglehearts for the first time in two weeks was overlaid with sadness as one of our singers, the much loved Mo, died last week and we were practising “You are my Sunshine” to sing tomorrow at her funeral. That was hard but it did us all good to sing and to remember her with some stories. We sang ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ in her honour as it was another of her favourites.
