Cornish Language, Produce and A Special Dinner

Our buses are teaching us Cornish phrases!

Our Allotment community is really lovely to be a part of and their generosity remarkable.  I went down to collect a few Mange Touts for dinner and was given some Strawberries and beautiful freshly podded peas. What a colourful collection.

Daughter No 1 is with us this weekend and we are celebrating her birthday which was in March! Confit duck with fresh allotment veg and  Cornish potatoes from our local greengrocer and a Blueberry and Strawberry Pavlova. It’s 8 months since we were able to be together so this meal has been a celebration of that as well as her missing birthday.

Cloth Kitty, Cookies and First Crop

I first made Cloth Kitty about 40 years ago and am now revamping her for the younger LiveWires. This is her in one of the outfits I made then and today I made her a lovely dressing gown. I’ll show you the new outfits as I get them done. They are very fiddly. I need to mend a little hole in her head too. I’m told LiveWire no 5’s favourite colour is red so I plan on embroidering a little red bow.

I had a sudden fancy for some Choc Chip Cookies this afternoon – they don’t take long to make. I added some chopped up crystallised ginger which made them super delicious!

There were just enough Purple Mange Tout at the allotment for us to harvest this evening and a baby courgette all of which I added to our mixed veggies risotto for supper – healthy and delicious!

Breakfast, A Rose and Gifts

Fluffy blueberry pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup was my breakfast treat – the lovely Mr S chose not to have the bacon but I love the sweet and savoury combo.

A rose we were given for our Golden Anniversary three years ago is still, in mid October, giving us beautifully scented blooms.

We’ve been at the allotment for hours today in beautiful Autumn sunshine trying to get the better of all the weeds. We have made progress. One I pulled up was a carrot which we have had for tea along with two Sweetcorn cobs which have been left behind by the previous owner. We have landed in a lovely community. One fellow allotmenteer kindly gave us a cucumber and some tomatoes this afternoon.

Marrow, Smiley Bus and Baskets

Last night as we came home quite late we found this beautiful marrow on our doorstep – from Sue-next-door’s allotment. Thank you. Now to find a new way to cook it! Marrow and Ginger Jam was a family favourite. I shall have to look up the recipe.

I love our new Cornish buses. As they approach they seem to be smiling and each one makes me smile back!

This may not seem to be a beautiful thing but it is in that it takes away all the uncertainty – I have my date for my second Hip Replacement operation – August 19th.
This is a very good date as all the family will just have left after a 10 day holiday with us, D&A&NM from Barcelona, KJ,J&T from London, L&B from Norfolk and M from Exeter. We will have all our four together which hasn’t happened for almost two years so it is very exciting.  It is also more than 12 weeks before Christmas so I will be back, all singing and dancing for that celebration when we are hoping that the whole family will be together again as the Visas needed by the Senegalese contingent of our family are for 6 months. Big smiles all round!
