Our Cornish hedges are filled with colour at the moment, pinks, whites and blues abound with golds and soft yellows and the lime greens of new leaf growth. As we drive by, these all become beautiful blurs of mixed hues so I walked around the block, as it were, to capture the colours for you. I wish I could also bring you the quietness, the birdsong, the smells and the peace that came with taking all these photos for you. Click on any photo for more detail.

Bluebells, Fern and Sculpture
1 Spring has sprung all of a sudden! In the days that I was away, the bluebells down the lanes are casting their beautiful blue haze and flowers in neighbours’ gardens are glowing. I wish I could send you the scent of the wallflowers.
2 Ferns in the hedgerows are unfurling. I just love the furriness and the curliness of young ferns.
3 Everyone is enjoying the Spring sunshine, especially this old fellow in his cloth cap on the bench outside the garden centre.
Rock Pool Treasures, Bluebells and A Cloudy Sky
1 Solace to be found in a walk by the sea was needed this afternoon and Falmouth was the place. Crunching through the shingle, listening to the susurration of the waves, breathing in the sea air and investigating the rock pools combined to be balm for the soul. 2 The bluebells are beginning to come into bloom and are quite beautiful.
3 The sky became overcast and quite moody, then as we were leaving I spotted this sign inside the street seller’s stall.
For those of you following for some time, you’ll know that we have been expecting our next Grandbaby. She arrived on Wednesday evening but is very poorly indeed. Finding beautiful things has always been part of my coping strategy from the time when we ourselves had a desperately ill baby needing three operations on his heart (he survived), the loss of dear ones including my beloved Mum and Dad and my friend of 30 years, Kath, to whom this blog is dedicated and whenever extra strength is needed. Somehow, I will continue to find the strength, the beauty and hope. Forgive me if I don’t get around to reading and commenting for a while.
Iris, Bluebells with Buttercups and Lemon and Clementine Parfait
1 Just one iris open – but so beautiful, like a butterfly.
2 Went to Tregajorran for singing this evening and where I parked was this glorious collection of bluebells and buttercups.
3 We had friends round for dinner last night and I made the most delicious pudding! Lemon Curd and Clementine Parfait, an adaptation of a Nigel Slater recipe. Bluebell Lane, Broccoli and A Very Big Moon
1 Had a beautiful drive down a little Cornish lane lined with drifts of bluebells.
2 Made a simple supper with beautiful purple sprouting broccoli a la Spring Simplicity but I left out the garlic because of tomorrow’s wedding and added some very crisply fried bacon – delicious! Thank you, Promenade Plantings for the inspiration.
3 The moon tonight is full and looks huge! I’m told that’s because it’s closer to the Earth than usual. It is certainly very beautiful.
Train Journey, Home from Senegal and a Simple Supper
1 The train journey through English countryside: The Somerset Levels, The White Horse, springy little lambs, a Thelwell pony, flowers-in-a-boat on the station platform at Saltash, and above all, the vibrant green of the fields.
2 Coming home, beautiful bluebells and primroses in the front garden and coming into our house.
3 A very simple and very tasty supper of two poached eggs on toast!
and I’ll start writing about the beautiful things of Senegal tomorrow.
First Bluebells, Coloured Pencils and A Baby Naming Ceremony
1 On the lane we take to walk into town, I saw the season’s first bluebells – such a rich colour, ‘like a piece of sky’ as the inspiration for my blog, http://threebeautifulthings.blogspot.co.uk/ once said. We also saw some beautifully veined leaves but I have yet to find out what they are.
2 We went into town to find small presents to take to Senegal for Ndeye Marie, the 3 year old daughter of our son’s fiancee – so our soon-to-be Granddaughter! We found some bright and chunky coloured pencils and some paper for her and lots of biros for the other children. We know from our Voluntouring in South Africa that such pens are much treasured by the local children.
We have also bought Ndeye Marie some picture story books, one of which is about The Heligan Giant. See my previous post to see this delightful mud sculpture: http://mybeautfulthings.com/2012/03/28/sally-boots-the-heligan-giant-and-swish/
3 I’ve visited a delightful family in St Erth this evening to talk about their son’s Baby Naming Ceremony. It’s already sounding charming and we’ve hardly started.
