A beautifully sunny Dandelion, a Clover that’s just given its nectar to a bee and an Autumny Ivy leaf in glorious colours with a single rain drop.
I’m better! The after effects of the flu jab have dissipated.
We did our circuit around a small part of The Flat Lode Trail this evening – it’s not flat! It is called that because the tin/copper ore under the ground here is relatively level but it doesn’t make for a flat walk! Shafts of sunlight were coming through the trees.
We have had many hot and dry days, happily not as hot as in London, and suddenly this evening there was a short, sharp shower and the air was filled with that magical smell of petrichor. I have to leave you to imagine that as I couldn’t photograph the beautiful scent.
We were struck this evening by almost all the wild flowers being shades of pink/purple. Enjoy the gallery and if you can id those I haven’t managed, feel free to comment and help me out.
For those who love words as I do – and petrichor is one of my favourites, it is “the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word is constructed from Greek petra(πέτρα), meaning “stone”, and īchōr (ἰχώρ), the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.”
I am so very happy! Today I have done a proper walk around the back, a walk that I have not done for over a year. That steroid injection has put me back to where I was before the rotten seats at the cinema in October and I can walk happily again, up hills, on rough ground, nearly being blown over and I feel fabulous! Join us by looking at our gallery, almost every photo out of focus as the wind was so very strong but showing what is in flower right now in this unseasonably warm weather.
Our Cornish hedges are filled with colour at the moment, pinks, whites and blues abound with golds and soft yellows and the lime greens of new leaf growth. As we drive by, these all become beautiful blurs of mixed hues so I walked around the block, as it were, to capture the colours for you. I wish I could also bring you the quietness, the birdsong, the smells and the peace that came with taking all these photos for you. Click on any photo for more detail.
1 The wild winds of yesterday shredded next door’s Copper Beech leaves and blasted them against our windows like a dark red confetti. Lit up by the sun this morning, the leaf shows all its beauty, its veining and furry edges that I’ve never seen before. Click on the photo to see an enlargement and all the minute detail.
2 The sun was shining and the wind had dropped a little so I went for a walk to collect photos of all the wildflowers in the hedges. In a sheltered spot I saw these Green-Veined White butterflies mating. Clicking on this one will show you the furriness of these beautiful little butterflies.
3 It was difficult taking photos of flowers blowing in the wind but somehow this whirlwind photo worked out, much to my delight.
