White Roses, Cherry Blossom and Excitement

My lovely Sister-in-law sent us this photo of White Roses flowering today in her garden despite the early morning frost in Atlanta, Georgia. Aren’t they beautiful? They are a bouquet to send us off on our special journey.

More beauty was found outside our bedroom window this morning – next door’s Winter Flowering Cherry.

I brought a couple of Mince Pies with me to our overnight stay near Bristol airport, the rest I left with our lovely neighbours who are watching over our place while we are in Barcelona. We wil be celebrating Christmas with that part of the family and hopefully the arrival of the Grandbaby twins! Are we excited? You bet we are! 🙂

Happy Winter Solstice to you all.

Rumi, A Sunset and A Summer Meadow

We all need hope in these dark days of Winter. These words from Rumi and the accompanying photo came my way today and I thought I would like to share them with you.

“Even the darkest night will end,
And the sun will rise again.

~ Rumi”

A lovely friend and neighbour has looked after me today, bringing over some ginger and lemon Yogi tea. On the label were more wise words which conjure up for me a picture of a wild flower filled meadow – Poppies, Cornflowers, Daisies. The photo is of the smiling wild meadow in The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

“The clouds must weep before the meadow smiles.”

Truro’s Winter Pansies, Tea Cosy and Keep Calm

Christmas shopping in Truro this morning was made even better by the planters full of colour, Primulas and Winter Pansies.dscn9665

I have posted photos from the pasty shop before, always seasonal and delightful tea-cosies. There is a skilled and imaginative knitter in there somewhere.dscn9673

On the way home we followed a pasty van, another with a sense of humour.

Fungi, Feather and Frolics

It was a beautiful frosty and very bright morning and we headed off early for a walk at Godrevy. Catch the waves with us, see the fungi as we walk around the headland and watch the seals in the bay. Click on photos to see the dew drop detail.

Fathers, Brine and L R Knost

It was on this day in 2004 that my lovely Dad died and he has been in my mind and my heart more than usual today. The following cutting was found by my Mum many, many years ago and clearly made her think of her Father, my Grandfather, The Rev W R Richards, whom I knew for only a couple of years when we lived in the Vicarage in Cockerham, Lancashire with him and my Granny.dscn9591

If only – my lovely Dad was a very wise man.

The turkey is sitting in the brine I made yesterday. Isn’t it a beautiful colour?dscn9580

These words from L R Knost touched me.peace

Spice Mixture, Chapel Porth and A Seed Head

We are having Christmas lunch on Sunday so I have been preparing the brining mixture for the turkey – gloriously coloured and scented fruit, spices and vegetables. Late afternoon took us to Chapelporth where the waves were huge and the tide racing in at a speed that I have never seen before. It was an utterly exhilarating walk along the beach with the roar of the breakers and then up the cliff walk to Wheal Coates. There was some gorse in flower but the best things were the seed heads lit by the fading sun.  Click on any photo for the caption and to see it in its full glory!

Love, Bosses and A Warmup

The world is in such great need of love – we can each do our bit and be willing to practise.

This evening my choirs have sung in a very beautiful building, The Alverton Hotel in Truro which was a convent in a previous life. I loved the bosses on the ceiling.

We did our warmup in The Great Hall, another beautiful room.

Front Doors, Shop Windows and A Memorial

Walking through Penryn, after a haircut this afternoon, I photographed Christmas wreaths, a couple of delightful shop windows and a most touching memorial to the eighteen people killed by a bomb in The Square, Penryn in 1941 – Eighteen Trees for Eighteen Lives. What a beautiful way to commemorate these lost lives. Click on any photo for detail and the caption.

Ribbons, A Star and Aldo Kraas

Today I bought some beautiful ribbons – gold and red and green for a Christmas project which I will show you in a week or two.

One of our neighbours has put a star up on the front of their house and it reminded me of a beautifully simple poem by Aldo Kraas that I like.

Star in the dark

Beautiful Star
Shine
For me at
Night
Because
I love
To see
You
Shining
At night

by Aldo Kraas  who was born on July 15 1964 in Sao Paulo Brazil and started to write poetry in 1996.
