Cornish Coastal Walk 7

We had the most glorious walk from Mawnan Church yesterday. Come with me through the Churchyard to the fields and the coastal path and back through the woodlands – a day of beauty, peace and happiness.

Clematis Fairy, Fine Shadows and Peacock Butterfly

1 I used to love finding fairies in the garden when I was a little girl and never being told that they were Clematis seed heads floating on the breeze. Today I found one in a bucket of water and was delighted with the subsequent unexpected photo.

2 The very last flower on the Pelargonium was caught in the sunshine today with the anthers making such a delicate shadow.

3 Of many photos taken trying to catch the fluttering butterfly, I eventually managed one as it took nectar from the lovely Heliotrope, otherwise known as Cherry Pie because of its delicious fragrance.

Umbrella, Butterfly and Golden Curd

1 What a lovely sing this morning and with the added delight of the choir-babies who always make us smile.

2 There were spare fresh eggs this morning so I bought them and therefore had enough to make Lemon Curd this afternoon. I have never seen such beautifully golden Lemon Curd and all because of the fabulous golden yolked eggs.

3 The lovely Mr S called me into the garden to see a beautiful visitor this afternoon – a Red Admiral Butterfly, looking a bit rough around the edges but lovely to watch fluttering around the garden.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Escape – into our Flower-filled Cornish Lanes

Our Cornish hedges are filled with colour at the moment, pinks, whites and blues abound with golds and soft yellows and the lime greens of new leaf growth. As we drive by, these all become beautiful blurs of mixed hues so I walked around the block, as it were, to capture the colours for you. I wish I could also bring you the quietness, the birdsong, the smells and the peace that came with taking all these photos for you. Click on any photo for more detail.

Copper Beech, Mating Butterflies and Wind Whipped Flowers

1 The wild winds of yesterday shredded next door’s Copper Beech leaves and blasted them against our windows like a dark red confetti. Lit up by the sun this morning, the leaf shows all its beauty, its veining and furry edges that I’ve never seen before. Click on the photo to see an enlargement and all the minute detail.

2 The sun was shining and the wind had dropped a little so I went for a walk to collect photos of all the wildflowers in the hedges. In a sheltered spot I saw these Green-Veined White butterflies mating. Clicking on this one will show you the furriness of these beautiful little butterflies.

3 It was difficult taking photos of flowers blowing in the wind but somehow this whirlwind photo worked out, much to my delight.

Beasties, Birthday, and A Butterfly

1 Thank you so much to everyone who offered advice about the fate of our lovely Crocuses. What a Beautiful Community indeed!

I went off for my piano lesson this morning and the patch was intact. When I returned an hour later, the beasties had been there again and uprooted another dozen and in broad daylight! We’ve protected the replanted ones with an upturned hanging basket and a child’s windmill! We think there are deep beak holes in the spaces and wonder – do Jackdaws do this kind of damage? If it happens again, I’m going to have to lie in wait to discover the culprits, be they mice or rats or squirrels or birds!

2 Our eldest daughter was 40 yesterday and is coming home tonight for a Birthday dinner ( Smoked salmon and prawn stacks, Venison Casserole with creamy mash and cabbage with bacon followed by Chocolate Torte) No 3 daughter is able to join us and we will Skype with the other two over the course of the evening.

3 This afternoon I went out to collect the above small posy for the dinner table, I found this beautiful Peacock butterfly on the Muscari. Fortunately, my camera is always in my hand!

Beautiful Creatures Found in One Garden in Nepal, October 2012

All these were seen in two cafe gardens where we stopped off for a drink on the long coach journey between Chitwan National Park and Pokhara. If anyone can help me to identify them I would be absolutely delighted!
