Glass Class, Playing and The Beach

Another lovely LiveWire day starting with them wanting to learn how to make something in glass. I cut the pieces for shooting stars for them both, they foiled the pieces and we started the soldering . We will finish that tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning. They both worked so hard!

Foiling

Beginning to solder

We went off to Heartlands to have lunch and then to play on the brilliant equipment like many other families.

Balancing

Landing after balancing across the blocks

Later we took a trip to our nearest and favourite beach, Porthtowan,  to play at damming up the stream, making pools and diverting the stream. I loved doing this as a kid, again with our four and now with the LiveWires. It isn’t something that you can grow out of  – or would ever want to!

Carn Brea, Secret Garden and Blossom

We have two LiveWires with us! This morning we went up to Carn Brea from where both the North and South coast seas can be seen. The youngsters love climbing on the (treacherous!) rocks and I have to bite my tongue. Their rock climbing and survival skills are impressive!

On top of Carn Brea

Rocks and Redruth

In the afternoon we took the children to the unique and wonderful Minack Theatre just above Porthcurno to see The Secret Garden which was an absolute delight.

As the play ended

Blossom abounds everywhere at the moment.

Gorse

Blackthorn, identified by HeyJude for me.

A Card, Some Beads and A Poem

Happy Days to you all! All the letters here are glass.

Mother’s Day in the UK was a couple of weeks ago

I love scouring the charity shops, the thrift shops, for jewellery to up-cycle in my glass work. today I found this colourful beady necklace.

Long beaded necklace

There is a lesson for us all in the following poem by Brian Patten.

Inessential Things – Brian Patten

What do cats remember of days?
They remember the ways in from the cold,
The warmest spot, the place of food.
They remember the places of pain, their enemies,
the irritation of birds, the warm fumes of the soil,
the usefulness of dust.
They remember the creak of a bed, the sound
of their owner´s footsteps,
the taste of fish, the loveliness of cream.
Cats remember what is essential of days.
Letting all other memories go as of no worth
they sleep sounder than we,
whose hearts break remembering so many
inessential things.

Another Lunch, Bouquet and Bias

I met the lovely Mr S for lunch again today. He is working on the boat on Freeman’s Wharf, getting her ready for launch later this month. We met at The Muddy Beach Cafe in Penryn and had a delightful lunch of an excellent Tomato and Roast Pepper Soup with Cheesy Toast and Onion Marmalade!

My lunch

There was a wedding in the cafe yesterday and the place was looking lovely, full of jugs of Spring blooms and bright yellow paper baubles hanging from the ceiling.

Leftover from yesterday’s wedding

The blackboard in the porch always amuses me and today I managed to get a photo.

Dogs, Lunch and Cake

As I was on my way to our market in Redruth this morning, I saw that three little dogs had been tied up to our wonderful Welly Dogs and it amused me.

I met the lovely Mr S for lunch today at The Warehouse in Penryn. We had the most delicious meal from the Brunch menu – Potato and Onion Hash and a Garlic Mushroom with a Fried Duck’s Egg!

We bought cake to take home for afternoon tea!

Courgette Cake – also delicious

Watering Cans, Beach and A Poem

I was in Hayle this morning and managed this time to find a parking spot to get the photo I’ve been trying to take for ever! There are half a dozen of these along the way.

I love these! Lovely old stone bridge to the mid left

I drove to Godrevy after my appointment in Hayle. It was a grey day but the beach still looked amazing.

Gwithian

What a lovely chirpy poem this is!

Spring (Again) – Michael Ryan

The birds were louder this morning,
raucous, oblivious, tweeting their teensy bird-brains out.
It scared me, until I remembered it’s Spring.
How do they know it? A stupid question.
Thank you, birdies. I had forgotten how promise feels.

Pooh’s Wisdom, Sedums and A Poem

Sometimes we just need this reminder and today I am putting it here for anyone who needs the comfort and especially for my blogging friend, Ute.

Winnie the Pooh’s wisdom

Just look at this beautiful Chameleon all made of sedums, I think. !

Chameleon, Montreal Botanical Garden.

A friend of a friend wrote this poem which I enjoyed and he gave me permission to share it with you. All these lovely orange things and speaking to us in the first person. I love the humour and the challenge, the alliteration and the positivity. Thanks, Ben.

Orange Appeal

Orange here — the color, not the fruit.
OK, the fruit too.
Plus pumpkins.

I don’t need your applause; I know I’m secondary, favorite of few.
I can take it.
Some say I’m gaudy. I prefer zestful.

Perhaps you take me, my tints, my shades, for granted.
Remember maples in the fall?
Good — don’t forget.

Tiger lily, monarch, flamboyant flash of oriole in flight.
See? I’m a bright treat, upbeat.
Just sayin’.

I could go on. I think I will.
I’m that serotonin-squirting surprise —
A ripe slice of joy, a perfect peach.

I’m the warm harvest moon, rising from the dew.
I’m the sprightly orange spine in a dingy bookcase.
I’m a detour from the mundane.

I’m all of these, and more.
I can guide you through the fog of life.
Not bragging. Much.

I’m secure in my own skin.
No need to march on Tuscany or claim that square in Russia.
But is a red fox red? Let’s be honest.

I’m your smiling jack-o-lantern
I’m your cheery orange bath towel in the dead of winter.
You’ve seen butterfly weed in bloom? Who’s your bud?

Stroboscopic skitter of shorebird legs.
California poppies on a hill.
Get the picture?

And then there’s flame — another coup.
Glowing coals and lava, too.
You’re welcome.

One more thing — sunsets over the bay.
I rest my crate.
I mean case.

A Gift, Another Gift and Forget-Me-Not

Yesterday we bought a beautiful little tree and today the lovely Mr S has planted it. A very dear friend of ours will be 100 years old in May and she has asked that we don’t buy her ‘things’ but instead plant a tree in her name  in our own garden or in the family Forest Garden.  We have chosen a dramatic red leaved Corkscrew Hazel, Corylus Red Majestic. It has the prettiest red catkins.

Another friend was in touch today as she was wanting to buy one of my glass pieces to send away for a birthday present. This is the piece she chose and it all wrapped up ready to post in its special box.

Lupin Leaf, Ramsons and Bluebells

We went shopping today – for plants! I found a purple Vinca for the Suffragette garden and we bought a small and very charming tree.  I’ll show you when they are planted.  Raindrops had collected in the Lupin leaves at the garden centre.

Lovers’ Lane is awash with wild garlic both the Three Cornered Leek, Alium Triquetrum and Ramsons, Allium Ursinum.

The Bluebells are coming into flower too, like many other flowers, rather early in the season.
