Today’s Post, Pretty Things and A Poem

Today’s post brought me a small packet and a card from a friend with whom I used to work. She has seen my glass pieces and sent some earrings for me to use. I have already put three of them into designs and will show you when they are complete.

Card from June

The earrings are perfect for the way I use them Thank you so much, J.

It is 26 years since my Mum died on this day, 4th June in 1993. Last year at this time I showed you some lovely photos. This year, here is a poem I wrote some years ago when challenged to write a 26 line poem, each line starting with the next letter of the alphabet. It was one of those moments. This one is for you, Mum.

As I was walking along the
Beach
Clutching my shoes,
Dipping my toes in the water and
Expecting to meet a
Friend,
Grief
Hit.
I
Just had to
Kneel in the sand,
Linking
My fingers so tightly they became
Numb.
Odd, how the
Passion of grief
Quits only to
Return
So suddenly and unexpectedly.
Then it’s gone again and I’m left
Uplifted by the
Vision of the sea she loved,
Watching
X numbers of
Yachts
Zimming across the waves………..

Croquettes, Mint and New Glass

Last night’s supper was Butternut Squash and Spinach Croquettes and they were delicious. I’d seen them to buy in the supermarket and thought they couldn’t be too hard to make and they weren’t!  I’ll put the recipe soon.

New Jersey potatoes for supper tonight so I picked some of the newly growing mint and the smell and taste were just perfect.

I am delighted with my latest glass piece – a rainbow with sun and rain!

Little Hands, Easter Nails and Shop Window

As I was driving to buy some more special boxes suitable for posting my glass pieces, I heard a quotation from Samuel Beckett which touched me deeply.  One of the loveliest things about having Grandchildren is that moment when you are walking along together and a little hand slips into yours. Even the ten year old still does this and I just love it!

“The child hand raised to reach the holding hand. Hold the old holding hand. Hold and be held.” Samuel Beckett   Worstward Ho

I called in for our favourite bread today and the lovely lady who looks after us has had her nails painted for Easter. They look just like little sparkly Easter eggs and I asked if I could take a photo which amused her greatly.

J’s beautiful nails

I had a message today asking me to re-stock my space in The Craft Collective as two more pieces have sold, much to my delight. It was very pleasing too to see one of my pieces in the window.

A bit skew wiff but lovely to see just the same.

A Gift, Another Gift and Forget-Me-Not

Yesterday we bought a beautiful little tree and today the lovely Mr S has planted it. A very dear friend of ours will be 100 years old in May and she has asked that we don’t buy her ‘things’ but instead plant a tree in her name  in our own garden or in the family Forest Garden.  We have chosen a dramatic red leaved Corkscrew Hazel, Corylus Red Majestic. It has the prettiest red catkins.

Another friend was in touch today as she was wanting to buy one of my glass pieces to send away for a birthday present. This is the piece she chose and it all wrapped up ready to post in its special box.

The Forget-Me-Nots that I brought from my Mum’s garden after she died in 1993 have just begun flowering for this summer.
