Knobs and Knockers

Most of these were taken in Pistoia but odd ones we found in Siena.   They pleased me with their variety, their lovely shapes, the wooden doors and the humour.  Click on any photo to see the detail.

Daffodils, A Painting and A Memory

Driving to and from Community Roots today was a joy as the lanes are lined with golden daffodils. The photo was taken from a moving car hence the smudge.  I wasn’t driving 🙂 .

We went to get bread from our favourite bread shop today and this delightful  work by Cosmic was on the shop window replacing the Father Christmas who was represented a couple of months ago.

I was asked today if I had ever climbed out of a window to do something illicit. That question prompted a lovely memory.
Late one summer term,  I had a pupil climb IN through the window as he had been told he would be in my English class the next year and he wanted to see what he was in for!

Nursery Washing Line, Lights and A Poem

I loved this washing line outside the nursery that we passed on Thursday, Santa costumes and fairy outfits – just delightful.

We were in Falmouth last night for the funniest show of Christmas, Christmas. Time. by Near-Ta Theatre and the street lights were lovely.

We love our visits to our Dear friend Ti and sharing poems with her. This was one of the ones we all enjoyed today, by Mary Oliver.

Benjamin Zephaniah

So sad to hear that Benjamin Zephaniah has died and at such a young age. We have loved his work for many years, even had Breakfast with him once at an event at a Sheffield pub many, many years ago.

Here is a poem so apt for our times called The British…….

and a wonderful recording from YouTube.

Our very old laptop is  poorly and we have bought a new one. Sadly, there is no slot for my camera’s memory card so right now, I can’t add my photos. I will hope to learn how to put my photos here by another method. Any advice very gladly received.

Glass, Eggs and Advent Candle

When I was cutting an angel wing this morning, the wing dropped from the larger glass I was cutting from and landed on its edge! Amazing!  I loved it and its reflection.

The lovely Mr S had fun putting the eggs on the rack today.

I remembered the Advent candle this evening. It has a bit of burning down to do to catch up.

Library Van

Driving to Truro to meet a dear friend for coffee we followed this library van and I love how it’s decorated.

Autumn Posy, A Poem and Glass

It’s late in October but we managed to find enough in the garden to make a pretty bunch of flowers for our visit to Ti this morning.

Alstroemeria, Dahlia and Fennel

We always enjoy poetry with Ti. Today’s favourite was one by Charles Causley which was new to us all. It was in the BBC book, More Poetry Please.  It’s quite long so I didn’t read it all. It begins:

Ballad of the Breadman

Mary stood in the kitchen
Baking a loaf of bread.
An angel flew in the window
‘We’ve a job for you,’ he said.
‘God in his big gold heaven
Sitting in his big blue chair,
Wanted a mother for his little son.
Suddenly saw you there.’

Mary shook and trembled,
‘It isn’t true what you say.’
‘Don’t say that,’ said the angel.
‘The baby’s on its way.’

I’ve started back at my glass work, picking out colours and bits of donated jewels to decorate the Angels with.

Angels in progress, needing heads

Santa Fe – Breakfast and Loretto Chapel

We loved the soft architecture of Santa Fe (of which more later) and the place we stayed had features of the same.

We had the most delicious breakfast in a lovely hotel in Santa Fe where glass panels were all painted and very lovely. As far as I could tell, each of the 100+ panels had a different painting..

I wanted to see the ‘miraculous staircase’ in the Loretto Chapel

Dahlias, The Grand Canyon and Singing

These beautiful dahlias from her allotment are a gift from Sue-next-door – just a glorious pompom of rich ruby red.

Gorgeous! Thanks Sue.

We had a lovely time at the North Rim – short walks, watching sunsets and one sunrise, meeting other travellers and reading on our verandah.

And – there was singing! What an enjoyable and funny evening this was! Click on the photos for all the words. The craziness went on all evening and the whole audience joined in with the new words for tunes we all knew so well.

Ad for the evening

Fennel, Traffic Cone and Shadows

A fennel plant has sown itself and the fuzzy growth point is lovely.

We were stuck in traffic long enough for me to be amused by the weed growing out of the top and to have time to take the photo.

The evening sun coming into the sitting room creates perfect shadows of my trainee Fairy.
