Humanism, Breakfast and Double Daisy

It is World Humanism Day today.

We met friends at The Blue Bar in Porthtowan for breakfast again this morning and had a super indulgent and very tasty meal.  The wind was too cold and rough for our intended walk on the beach afterwards.

Waffle with berries, mascarpone and honey with a side of crispy bacon

One of our daisies was broken off in the wind so I brought it in and then realised that it is a double! I’ve never seen one like it before.

I hope you can see the magical doubleness

Tastes of Tuscany – Meals

Oh my, we ate some delicious food!  Some I can give you the name, others, I forgot to get a photo of the menu.  Such beautiful presentation and absolutely delicious. It was really lovely to share them with new friends K and A.

Our meal in Pistoia was another treat.

Caprese for supper one evening in the hotel in Montecatini Terme

Our last meal with aforementioned friends in Montecatini at a delightful restaurant in the town.

Navajo Wisdom and Affogato

I bought a beautiful little book while we were at the Grand Canyon, a gift for a dear friend, and took photos of some of the pages before I gave it to her this evening while we were all out together for dinner.

I’ll share pages over the next week or two. I love all the wisdom therein.

We enjoyed excellent pizzas and then affogatos.

Shop Window, Chocolate Cake and A Dahlia

We’ve been in Truro this afternoon and I just love this shop window.

Charlotte’s Tea House is always our place for a treat and my goodness, was the Chocolate Fudge Cake a treat!?  We shared a piece with ice-cream and I had almost finished when I thought to take a photo for you.

Our big shaggy Dahlias seem to have survived Storm Betty. In fact, although the winds were crazy, the storm itself with thunder and lightning passed us by though other parts of Cornwall saw some dramatic skies and some lost power. .

Guest blogger once again!

Hello everybody! It’s LiveWire3, again, and today, we found lots of things. However, the first thing we did was visit Porthtowan to have some very filling brunch in the Blue bar. Granny got some delicious avocado toast. Most of us had avocado toast so the table was full of green!

Afterwards, we went for a short yet satisfying walk around the beach. We stood there for a bit looking at the waves as they splashed onto our smiley faces.

While we were walking back, we noticed clusters of snails lying contently on the leaves. Some of them carried sand with them which gave the bushes some texture. We also noticed that on the fence, there were signs about peaceful protests from history. There was a pop of purple, so we looked closer and it was about the suffragettes. My Great, Great, Great Grandmother was a suffragette so this was very special.

A few hours later, we decided to go to Community Roots to go and get a tour and as I was walking looking at the acre of vegetables, I found a four leafed clover! They are extremely rare and these clovers had a special white border and their leaves were much bigger than any other leaves I have seen!

Near what we thought was the end of the tour, one of the staff told us their was a market full of things people have made and small companies so we had an excuse to stay! The market was amazing, full of colourful and ‘beautful things’. We found an ice cream van with a twist! All the ice cream was plant based so my partly lactose intolerant soul told me to ‘Go and get some ice cream!’ So we did and found these crotchet ice creams hanging over us!

When we got back home we had to rest from a very successful day but then Granny had the idea to go for an evening allotment visit where we replanted some fennel we got gifted from Community roots. It looked very happy in its new home!

Flowers, Breakfast and Sea

We met our lovely friends for breakfast as we have done each month for a couple of years. It was the turn of the Blue Bar in Porthtowan today and as usual we enjoyed  delicious meals and talked almost non-stop!

Breakfast for me was Toasted Banana Bread with Mascarpone and Berries with Honey – yum.

The red flag was up so there was no-one in the sea where the waves were crashing onto the shore.

Autumn Lane, First View and Breakfast

The lanes down towards Mylor, where we were to meet friends for breakfast this morning, were still full of Autumn colour.

The first view of Mylor is always a delightful surprise.

Looking over Mylor Churchyard towards the water on a very cloudy, mizzly day.

My breakfast was scrumptious – Potato Rosti with asparagus, spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms with a poached egg and Hollandaise sauce.

Life Affirming Sun, Sea and Food

We went to The Square at Porthleven to collect our “cook-at-home” meal for tonight  – Pate, Confit Duck and Sticky Ginger Pud with Chantilly Cream.   We were there around 4pm and so enjoyed seeing the crashing waves, the cold water swimmers, the surfers and the sunset. Then we came home and fixed our dinner following the instructions given to us.   Enjoy the gallery.

Dinner was divine!  Every course was delicious and full of flavour. We didn’t want our meal  to end!

If you think the first and last courses look a bit small, bear in mind that we shared them, all three courses being too much for us!

Breakfast, Swans and Kindness

Last day before lockdown and we met a couple of friends at a pub for breakfast! We sat on the terrace with the most idyllic view in front of us, enjoying a delicious Cornish breakfast,  putting the world to rights and soaking up the sun’s rays. It was actually warm and such a tonic.

I love swans, a symbol of grace, needed by us all as we face the next months.

Outside the pub was a barrel (!) of fresh water for thirsty pups. What a lovely idea. We often see dishes of water but this is a step up!
