Nursery Washing Line, Lights and A Poem

I loved this washing line outside the nursery that we passed on Thursday, Santa costumes and fairy outfits – just delightful.

We were in Falmouth last night for the funniest show of Christmas, Christmas. Time. by Near-Ta Theatre and the street lights were lovely.

We love our visits to our Dear friend Ti and sharing poems with her. This was one of the ones we all enjoyed today, by Mary Oliver.

Concert, Firemen and Street Lights

Well, that was quite an evening! We were just into Hark the Herald Angels’ when the fire alarm went off and we all, 100s of us, had to leave the Cathedral and move into the cobbled square in front. But – we had a great time in the cold outside! Claire, our choir leader, took the crowd in her hands and we sang for them and with them while the firemen went in and did their thing! We loved that bit better than the whole!

The blue lights are the fire engine while we were singing with the crowd

Memories, An Owl and Being Kind

Today marks the day my lovely Dad died in 2004. He spent his last seventeen days in the hospice and I spent every day with him.  I find the beginning of December quite tricky and this year more than most, not sure why.
I’m remembering the long days full of such mixed feelings, the sadness and the reminiscing, the wonderful staff at the hospice, the way I was so well looked after as well as the amazing care for my Dad. We put up a favourite painting in his room, we took in his (now my) ‘Des Amis Silencieux” bookcase, filled with all his published books which gave every visitor a talking point.
Those who know me, know I wear vanilla perfume every day. One day, late in his stay as I bent over to kiss him good morning, he said how like ice-cream I smelt and he loved it as he loved a good Cornish ice-cream.

I’ve started decorating the tree this afternoon and love the Owl that was on the tree at home when I was growing up.

Saw this today and loved it.

Trelissick, Singing and Decorations

The Suitcase Singers sang our hearts out in Trelissick Gardens this afternoon with an enthusiastic audience up for joining in and having fun.

Afterwards we went into Trelissick House to see the gorgeous decorations, delightful Christmas trees, one at least in every room,  and some quirky dancers. Click on any photo in the gallery for more detail.

A Decoration and A Poem

Beautiful Christmas tree decoration from Poland

Yesterday was International Human Rights Day and a friend sent me the following poem which moved me to tears.

Summer (’16)
BY RACHEL TZVIA BACK

The cyclamens have a hard time
breathing in July.

The sun ravages them and earth
is too dry.

Still, try remembering March light
and the tight

deep-buried bulbs that somehow
do not die.

2
The children are scattered
like weeds.

The children are scattered dust-colored
dirt-covered

like weeds. Mid-summer grey reigns,
and rain

exists not even in memory, here where children
dressed all

in debris peer out from under slabs of
jagged stones,

bombed homes, mountains or ruined
thrones

they may have climbed, small kings and
queens

of imagined realms, smoothest pebbles
in small palms their

caressed totems and favorite songs as they
would have climbed

here where now they half-buried lie, small bodies
crushed by pitched-black

weight, there they wait, to be pulled out from
under the remains

of broken town, mangled concrete, piled-up stones,
bones, dust clouds and

shrouds, on the children who are
scattered now

across the whole countryside
like weeds.

3
At the edge of another summer.
At the edge of a fallow field.
At the edge of day.

Waiting

For last light of dusk
To call all the children
Home.

A Note from the Editor
Today is International Human Rights Day.

Street Music, Christmas Wreath and Patches

It was fun to hear this band while shopping this morning.

This afternoon I raided the garden for greenery and made our Christmas wreath for the front door.

While in town, I took my favourite cashmere cardigan into Make-A-Mends to see if they could do anything about the holes in the elbows. I love this rich blue and beautifully warm cardigan and didn’t want to lose it. Within 3 hours rather than several days, I had a message to go and collect it and I LOVE it! Mend and save! My cardigan now has extra added value and extra lovely colour.

Thank you Sarah of Make-A-Mends, fabulous job!

Morning Sky, Winter Waves and Post Box Topper

Such a beautiful sky as we drew back the curtains….

It was a wild wind so we thought the waves might be big and fun to watch in the harbour in Portreath and they were.

We have a new postbox topper in our street and it is delightful.

We’ve just got back from another delicious pizza night at our local best place ever!

Mint, Market and An Angel

We had a lovely breakfast with good friends this morning and then went shopping in Truro. In the Apple shop there was a delightful grow box with mint thriving.

The Christmas market on Lemon Quay has been upgraded with some delightful wooden huts rather than the white tents that have been used for years. It had a really lovely continental market feel to it and will be even better as dark falls.

Regular readers will know how I love angels. I have bought many over the years on all our holidays. This one we bought in September in Santa Fe. She’s a little bell and is gorgeous!

Christmas Carols and Glass Angels

Yesterday my choir, The Ingleheart Singers, sang Christmas Carols to entertain the visitors to the Eco Park Christmas Market. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon despite the rain and today, our leader sent us the following photo and some wonderful  comments that have pleased us all.

I was there but I’m behind our esteemed leader!

Eco Park: “Thank you so much for the wonderful singing. I’ve come here from Germany to stay with my daughter for Christmas.  Your choir just opened my heart”
“As I walked towards the market, it looked so atmospheric and beautiful with the lights and everything, then I heard this incredible singing and saw you all in your reds stood there, it really was the cherry on the cake!  It was the best Christmas singing I’ve ever heard in my life!”
Chef from the cafe: “You must be very pleased with yourselves, I’ve just had some people come in and say they were moved to tears by the singing.”

I’m working hard to get my last few angels finished. I’m incorporating more of the sea glass I have been given.  Here are the last few in various stages of being done.

Thanks to Judith for the sea glass xx
