Baby Aubergines, Crochet and Stone Sculpture

I’ve bought two baby aubergines for a special recipe Round Aubergine Satay which is delicious though it was the shadow pattern that suggested I take the photo. .

I’ve been crocheting for some weeks and am nearly ready to start assembling the beginnings of the blanket.

The tv has been on as I’m compiling this tonight and Susan Calman is in Cornwall. She interviewed a sculptor who balances stones and this one is brilliant. .

The Nest, Cookies and One Viola

We sang around the nest today.From Caroline at Jubilee Wharf, “The nest has been all about nurturing creativity and community spirit and has been built by the people who live and work at Jubilee Wharf and Jubilee Warehouse. The nest is the result of a community art project initiated by Jubilee Wharf tenants Arts Well, and part of Fun Palaces. People have put wishes in the nest and we would invite the choir to do so too and would love them to sing around it!  Fun Palaces supports local people to co-create their own cultural and community events, across the UK and worldwide, sharing and celebrating the genius in everyone.”

My wish

The last time I made Choc Chip Cookies was for our lovely Ukrainian friends. Those young people are so deep in my heart and will be with me for ever. The following words are part of a message that came to us today and which has  touched my soul.
“Just want again say thank you for this beautiful time in Redruth. It was like in Fairytale. Thank you for your attention and time and love.”

I spotted just one Viola on the pan stand today.

Glass Work, Golden Leaves and A Poem

I’ve been working on glass all day as it is time for angels to be made. I’m using blue and yellow glass and making Angels for Ukraine. I’ve cut six, filed and cleaned all six, foiled just one and begun to choose the recycled, often given to me by friends, bits of jewellery to decorate them.

A walk on the beach by the sea, on an earring given to me by C.

With recycled beads looking like a sunflower

Beautiful autumnal colours are appearing in the trees.

I found this poem today and it seemed right, being about singing and for peace.

Songs for the People

Let me make the songs for the people,
   Songs for the old and young;
Songs to stir like a battle-cry
   Wherever they are sung.
Not for the clashing of sabres,
   For carnage nor for strife;
But songs to thrill the hearts of men
   With more abundant life.
Let me make the songs for the weary,
   Amid life’s fever and fret,
Till hearts shall relax their tension,
   And careworn brows forget.
Let me sing for little children,
   Before their footsteps stray,
Sweet anthems of love and duty,
   To float o’er life’s highway.
I would sing for the poor and aged,
   When shadows dim their sight;
Of the bright and restful mansions,
   Where there shall be no night.
Our world, so worn and weary,
   Needs music, pure and strong,
To hush the jangle and discords
   Of sorrow, pain, and wrong.
Music to soothe all its sorrow,
   Till war and crime shall cease;
And the hearts of men grown tender
   Girdle the world with peace.
Apologies to the poet -This poem is in 4 line stanzas and my draft shows the poem in that shape. Somehow, when published it changes shape.

Visitor, Bumper Sticker and Evening Out

Our squirrel is back. We’ve missed its visits.

I liked this bumper sticker which we followed this afternoon.

There was an EOS (Exhibition on Screen) film at the Newlyn Filmhouse this evening all about one of our favourite artists, Edward Hopper. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant beforehand so it was an excellent evening out.

Some Old Tyres, A New Word and Beaches

We keep the big doors open at the eco barn when we sing on Monday afternoons and today, through the gap,  I saw some of the delightful and imaginative decorations in the yard, all made from old tyres and painted brightly to become a toucan and a palm tree!

I learned a new word the other day – confelicity.  It means taking delight in the happiness of others. This is what it was like last week when we so enjoyed taking our Ukrainian friends to the beach where they were able to let go of some worries for a while and could revel in the joy of the sea and the beach.

Our friends are in our hearts and our thoughts all the time and especially today given the ongoing news.

Muck Spreading, Fuchsia and Bunker Cabaret

One of our fellow allotmenteers arranged for a trailer-full of well rotted manure to be delivered this morning.   People worked very hard to  shovel it all out and then the lovely Mr S wheelbarrowed some  to our plot and I spread it all out. We are hoping for splendid crops next year!

Another neighbour’s garden, on the path away from the lottie on the way home, has these fuchsias still in flower.

Our Ukrainian friends, Hooligan Art Community,  have just performed Bunker Cabaret in Eastleigh. This is a photo from one of the performers at the end of the show.

Baby Snails, Soup and Daisies

We brought leeks home last night from the allotment and when they were all prepared, with the compost bin ready to go out, the lovely Mr S called me to  see the parade of little snails that were looking for a way out…….

I found a new soup recipe today where the sweet potatoes, peppers, garlic and red onions had to be roasted first. What a pretty colourful tray. The soup was delicious. .

I took the photo of Michaelmas Daisies growing a neighbour’s garden, gorgeous.

Flowers, Allotment and Defender’s Day

We made up a lovely bunch of purple, white and green to take when we visited our Dear friend Ti this morning.

The various patches at the allotments still have colour. There are lots of squashes around and some lovely bright dahlias in a neighbouring plot.

One of our young Ukrainian friends posted this today. It is to recognise Defenders Day in Ukraine today and translated says:  All defenders and defenders happy holiday! You guys are the best!

Всіх Захисників і Захисниць зі Святом!
Друзі, ви найкращі!

I looked up the significance of the day and found the following:

Defenders Day[7] is a public holiday[8] in Ukraine celebrated annually on 14 October.[9][10] Its first celebration was in 2015.

You have our love and support.

Peace and Charity Auction

Singing at the Zed Shed where this vision of peace greets us in the morning, is very soul restoring.

Choir this morning have recorded a short piece for the ShelterBox Auction. The top bidder for us will win an hour’s concert!   Here is a YouTube video for you of The Suitcase Singers singing Anne Glanville

When our Ukrainians were with us, I contacted Spotlight South West to encourage them to see the show and do interviews with the Hooligan Art Community. Here is the interview for you to see. It takes a while to load.

Visit, Lunch and Family History

My cousin and her husband, who live in Australia, have been with us today and what a catch up that was! We think we last met in person when I was 16 and W a little younger. We have kept in touch by email and through this blog.  I had made Eccles cakes in her honour as I know how she loves them.

We went to Gylly Beach Cafe for lunch having driven around Castle Drive to see the fine view around the Carrick Roads across to St Mawes and into Falmouth Bay. I took a photo of the Specials board to share and the battery in my camera announced that it was “exhausted.” Hence no more photos of our day together…..

W brought me some treasures – some lovely photos of our shared Grandparents and a photocopy of a page of her father’s autobiography with references to my Mum, here known as Twm, the name her Father gave her that stayed as a nickname. It means Gift from God. The extract describes my Mum’s inventiveness and  her delightful sense of mischief. I had never heard this tale from her!
