Feast, Fun and Singing Part 2

What a brilliant night that was of sharing Cornish and Ukrainian cultures in the most spontaneous way and everyone had such a lot of fun.

Beach, Selfie and Pins

Such a beautiful day with bright sun and the bluest of skies so we went to the beach and one of our Hooligan friends came with us.

Us three

One of our young Hooligan Art Community friends has been back to Kyiv in between her visits here and she brought us all gifts of pins. Mine means Freedom and Will and joins my Ukrainian flag on my bag. The lovely Mr S has the military roadblock being used to stop Russian tanks and Sue-next-door has the word for bread (palianytsia) , a word that Russians can’t say so it is used to establish nationality.

Peace and Charity Auction

Singing at the Zed Shed where this vision of peace greets us in the morning, is very soul restoring.

Choir this morning have recorded a short piece for the ShelterBox Auction. The top bidder for us will win an hour’s concert!   Here is a YouTube video for you of The Suitcase Singers singing Anne Glanville

When our Ukrainians were with us, I contacted Spotlight South West to encourage them to see the show and do interviews with the Hooligan Art Community. Here is the interview for you to see. It takes a while to load.

Busy Day – Beach, Lunch and Farewell Party

more tomorrow! 🙂

A wonderful day was had by all – walking on Chapelporth Beach, cave exploring, swimming for the brave, and general rejuvenation of the spirit.

The lovely people at the Chapelporth Beach Cafe very kindly treated our Ukrainian friends to a delicious lunch of Croques Monsieur followed by the inimitable and scrumptious ice cream, Robin’s Hedgehog. If you have never had one of these wicked treats, they are made up of Cornish ice cream slathered in Cornish cream and dipped in roasted hazlenuts. You can see by their faces how much these were appreciated.

Our farewell party was full of good company, a wonderful shared feast, lots of wine and even more singing. Our Ukrainians sang for us and we for them and together we all sang ‘You Are My Sunshine’ which they had learned last week when they visited my choir. That, and the last twelve days, have filled us all with love and beautiful memories.

Berries, Lighthouse and Last Show

I hadn’t realised that Lily of the Valley has berries, bright red and beautiful but very poisonous , I discovered on googling.

Such a beautiful day today and our young friends busy so we went off to enjoy the waves at Godrevy. We have never seen the place so packed with people! I think it must have been featured in one of the many programmes about Cornwall on tv!

It was the last show tonight and it was just as wonderful. A couple of days ago I emailed Spotlight South West about Hooligan Art Community and, as a result,  they went to see the rehearsal yesterday. Sadly, the clip from the tv programme is not available tonight.

Happiness Calendar, Beach Walk and Treasures

I love sharing the Action for Happiness calendars and trying to take the advice for myself. Do click on it and zoom in if it isn’t clear enough. .

Porthtowan Beach was our destination with our Ukrainian friends this afternoon. It was wild and windy and very healing which was so good to hear.

The chaotic waves were throwing up foam which had the loveliest colours. I love collecting heart stones and found this one for M who didn’t come on the walk.

Dogs have such a joyful time on the beach in the autumn/winter months when they are allowed on the beach. I really love watching them and was delighted to catch a short video of one catching a Frisbee.

Welcome, Dawn and A Jackdaw

Our young guests have been working on their production, Bunker Cabaret, today and have given me permission to use their photo of our welcome dinner on Wednesday evening. The show will be in Redruth next week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Welcome dinner at ours

The red/pink dawn presaged the very wet and windy day “Red sky in the morning, mariner’s warning.” The lovely Mr Smith took this photo for me on his way to bring me a cup of tea.

I made Blueberry Pancakes for breakfast but realised when the first batch were in that I had forgotten the bicarbonate of soda as they were flat and heavy. The second batch were lovely after I added the bicarb and it interacted with the buttermilk to make the fluffiest pancakes ever. The Jackdaws were not bothered and had finished them off in no time!
