Daffodils, A Poem and A Magnolia Moon Sky

Part of our front garden is crowded with daffodils and this delightful little poem by Sue Cowling ,which I read a few days ago, comes to mind when I see them.

It was lovely to see a Bee very busy in the Crocuses today.

We none of us know what is going on in the lives of others. Much remains hidden so remember……

Singing Workshop, Tulips and Knitting

Today’s singing workshop was fabulous! Imagine spending a day with wonderful people, friends and singing teachers, learning new pieces to be sung in harmony all written by the lovely Helen Yeoman, sharing the most delicious lunch and coming away with such a sense of well-being all brought about by singing together. Just imagine! Well that was my day today and aren’t I just so lucky?

To cap the day off, I was given a beautiful bunch of purple tulips by a lovely friend – for just being a lovely friend! That was a very special moment. Thank you.

Last night I finished off a cosy scarf that I have been knitting for the lovely Mr S. Now the weather will probably turn warmer!

Cornwall Rising – A Million Stories of Sanctuary

What an incredibly moving, informative and inspiring day we have had, hearing from ‘ordinary’ Cornish people who are doing extraordinary work both here and abroad to ease the plight of those who have had to leave their homes in Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia and other places where life is unimaginably hard.

Our own St Piran was a refugee made welcome here and we, those who live in this beautiful county, want to help and are helping in Lesvos, in Calais and in Cornwall, each in her own way and all volunteers.  Here follows a gallery of the day, photos taken from the back of the hall of the projection on the wall.

Creativity, Yellowness and Zest

I pass these embroideries on my way to singing each Thursday. They sum me up quite well!

Later in the day I passed this triangle of loveliness, heaps of little golden daffodils.

I’m going to two shared lunch events in the next two days so this afternoon I have made two delicious cakes, Tunisian Almond and Orange Cake with the addition of Star Anise in the glazing syrup. I love the glowing colours of the citrus zest.

On Friday afternoon a group of my lovely friends are getting together to make some more Baby Carriers and today I have prepared three ‘kits’ with all the pieces cut out and ready to sew.

International Women’s Day at Krowji

Today saw the opening of The Elizabeth Treffry Reading Room at Krowji Studios, Redruth’s creative hub. All the 3000 books and artefacts in there are by or about women in Cornwall. One of the speakers quoted Germaine Greer as a woman who had influenced him, here speaking about libraries.  Perfect, isn’t it?  This place is going to be such a fabulous resource for research.

“Libraries are reservoirs of strength, grace and wit, reminders of order, calm and continuity, lakes of mental energy, neither warm nor cold, light nor dark … In any library in the world, I am at home, unselfconscious, still and absorbed.”

Visit, Walk and Dessert

Our eldest daughter has been down for the day for her birthday which is tomorrow and happily this year it has coincided with Mother’s Day. We spent the afternoon on a lovely long walk out of Trelissick along the river through the woods and back up again.  Join us on our peaceful stroll. Please click on any photo for detail.

We had a delicious Birthday dinner of Chicken Adobo followed by Chocolate Torte.IMG_9374
