Rainbow, Fat Ball and Frock

1   There was a glorious rainbow in the middle of one of our stormy showers today. If you look really closely, you can just make out its pale mirror image.

2   Walking through the park to town this afternoon, I noticed that some kind and thoughtful soul had hung a fat-ball for the birds in the young Auraucaria.

3   In one of my favourite shops, Cornish Bird in the Sticks, there were these beautiful little frocks for beautiful little Granddaughters! The middle one here is my favourite.

Dawn Meeting, Be Happy and Winter Blossom

1   I love lying in bed in the mornings watching the coming and going of the birds. They all gather in the tree opposite, fly off in big swoops and wheel around to return to the tree.

2   I once read that giving out smiles is the best thing you can do because they always come back to you. This poster says the same kind of thing. Be Happy! (I used to have that up in my classroom as one of my classroom rules!)

3   Next door’s Winter Cherry is flowering despite the howling wind and rain of today. Yesterday’s sunshine brought it all out.

Spirit Lifting Singing, Lichen and Silhouette

1   After a fabulous morning of singing with The Suitcases where we learned some new songs including ‘Take Me Dancing ‘ by Rowan Sawday and ‘Bella Ciao ‘ a resistance song from Italy1943-45 and where my sprits, as always, were lifted, we had a walk around the back in the late afternoon sunshine which today was glorious.

Standing, Kindness and The Power of the Sea

1   Grand Baby B stood up all on her own today! It won’t be long before she is walking.

2   A friend sent me this photograph, an example of kindness. What a beautiful thing for one person to do for another.

3   We had a walk on the beach at Perranporth at low tide today and could see the effects of last week’s huge tidal surges. The Watering Hole Cafe was lucky to survive the storms.

Coots, Shop and My January Tree

1   Driving home from a lovely lunch with friends today I came past Swanpool where I saw no swans but a few coots. I loved the effect of the movement of the coots on the reflection of the reeds.

2   I went shopping in Falmouth in the afternoon and found a shop new to me. The shop’s punning name amused me. For those of my readers outside Cornwall and the UK, the beautiful Chough is a symbol of Cornwall and is on the coat-of-arms. The pun happens as the word ‘chuffed’ means pleased – so one would be delighted/chuffed  to find this shop full of Cornish treasures.

3    I pass this tree every Thursday as I go to sing and I love its shape. Last year, I decided to photograph it each month from the same spot but didn’t! This year I am determined to achieve my aim. Here is My January Tree in a puddle of water from the massive amounts of rain we have had in the last month.

Stay safe, all of you, be you in freezing temperatures too dangerous to go out in or in the storms lashing the UK.

Winter Flower, Miniature Bouquet and Banana Loaf

1   Walking up from town in a fierce but warm wind, I noticed some little Periwinkles flowering.

2   As we arrived home our neighbour called in with belated Birthday presents, one  a beautiful miniature bouquet of flowers from her garden today. I have put them into a tiny painted glass jug that my Dad once dug up in the garden where we lived briefly in Birmingham. I was only 5 years old and fell in love with it so it became mine. It suits this delightful bunch of Daisies, Primroses, a Violet, a tiny Campanula and some leaves just perfectly.

3   I have made a Healthy Banana Loaf this afternoon to wean us off the rich Christmassy food as we try to lose seasonal accumulated pounds!  Recipe to follow soon.

Hyacinth, Card and A Winding Road

1   The first of the hyacinths that I planted some weeks ago is just coming into flower and smells lovely. If you click the red link you’ll see what they looked like on November 22nd.

2   I took the Christmas cards down today and was again struck by the quotation from Simon Dach on this one from my dear sister-in-law. It’s what we do for each other even though we are many miles apart – Atlanta, Georgia and Cornwall, UK.  If you’d like to know more of the poem and the poet, click here

3    This beautiful painting came into my Fb page today and I was amazed to read that it was done by a 7 year old. She and her Mum have given permission for me to feature it here today – thank you very much to you both.  I especially love the way Anishka has used colour in the trees which is echoed in the hills and the way the perspective works. This would make a very beautiful embroidery and is quite inspiring!

These are the lovely messages from Anishka  and her Mum -“Anishka has a few words to share with you………….

I really want to be artist when I am older because i love art.I drew a house there because houses are usually built near grass.I chose the colours because they remind me about summer.  I did trees because I felt it looked 3D.

………. all her own words and typing and I loved listening to her spell because (Birds Eat Custard And Usually Scrambled Egg) How cool is that! Hope this helps, let me know if you need anymore info! x” Anishka’s Mum is an artist herself and you can find her work here.

I’ve ticked the ‘super-awesome’ button on today’s post. I don’t know what it does but feel that Anishka’s work deserves to be seen. By the way, I don’t know this family – only serendipitously ‘met’ them through Fb today.
