Clematis, Zoom and A Birthday

The Clematis Armandii sent us the last blooms today.

Choir was on Zoom tonight and was great fun! What a lovely lot we are!  Thanks to Claire for a fabulous lesson.

It’s my kid brother’s birthday today and despite us posting on 7th April (to Atlanta, USA) his card has not arrived so here is another!

Day 3 of Golden Wedding Week

This morning I made two Picnic Pies for tomorrow and some crumble topping for this evening and then we went out to the farm to have some time just with the Barcelona babies and their parents and with our eldest and her daughter while all the other children went back down the lane to the beach for more adventures.  On their way back they picked two buckets worth of blackberries for the Blackberry and Apple Crumble.

LiveWire 2 is a natural with his baby cousins and they are loving him and his attention.

Just before dinner tonight, we were presented with the ‘first’ of our presents from them all – fabulous T-shirts printed with the family portrait that we had made almost two years ago to give to each family. As a very special surprise KJ had been in touch with Kate from Cornish Bird in the Sticks and she added our Grandbaby twins to the family portrait! What a totally fabulous thing to do for us. We were quite overcome…..  Every member of the family now has a commemorative T-shirt.

Violet, Dustbin and A Card

Look carefully and you will see a little Violet in the branches of the tree, at least 8′ above the ground

Friday is dustbin day and one of our neighbours has decorated their bin so that it doesn’t get mixed up!

I called in at my favourite shop for presents and cards, Cornish Bird In The Sticks, today to find a card for nearly Littlest LIveWire who will be 4 years old next week!

Shoreline, Birthday and Blow The Wind Southerly

Another whole day with all the beautiful people involved in Shoreline, learning new pieces, watching more dances and coming together as a community, even as a production team! We were just too busy and involved for me to get any photos but see yesterday’s post for a flavour of the weekend. I found these beautiful primroses in the grounds of Tremough yesterday. Today there was too much of a hoolie to venture outside. I contributed to the cake-break today with a Date and Oat Slice, gluten-free.

It is Littlest Live-wire’s 3rd birthday today and we have sent her a beautiful central light lampshade designed by Kaitlyn of Cornish bird in the sticks and it is now hanging in B’s bedroom. It was Kaitlyn who did our family portrait. Click here to see our lovely family!

Today’s poem is song lyrics, ‘Blow the Wind Southerly’. Sung by Kathleen Ferrier, this was the soundtrack for one of today’s dances, dances which were so very moving and powerful. I grew up with this song as it was my Mum’s all time favourite and while I didn’t appreciate it as a child, today, all that love came back to me and added to the emotion of the dance.  I’ve given you the link if you would like to listen. It really is a very beautiful love song of deep longing that was conveyed so beautifully by the dancers this morning.

Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow the wind south o’er the bonny blue sea;
Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow bonnie breeze, my lover to me.

They told me last night there were ships in the offing,
And I hurried down to the deep rolling sea;
But my eye could not see it wherever might be it,
The barque that is bearing my lover to me.

Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow bonnie breeze o’er the bonny blue sea;
Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow bonnie breeze, and bring him to me.

Oh, is it not sweet to hear the breeze singing,
As lightly it comes o’er the deep rolling sea?
But sweeter and dearer by far when ’tis bringing,
The barque of my true love in safety to me.

Bunting, Droplets and Oscar Wilde

1   In my favourite shop in Redruth, Cornishbirdinthesticks, I found  some glass bunting which I fell in love with so I didn’t leave it in the shop!

Sign of Spring, Pocket and Remarkable Courage

1   The sun is shining today and our first tiny Tete a Tete has opened – magic! There are signs of our Snowdrops too…….

2    Last week I featured a beautiful little frock. I checked with L that she would like it for Grandbaby B and she said ‘Yes!” To my delight, when I bought it from the lovely Cornish Bird In The  Sticks, I discovered two things: 1.  It is reversible and has this beautiful little pocket on the plain side and 2. It was made right here in Redruth!

3   Yesterday in The Guardian there was a letter that moved me almost to tears. Jake Arden, the son of Human Rights Activist Margeretta Darcy, told us that she “is serving a three month sentence in Limerick prison for trying to stop the violation of Irish neutrality by US military planes which stop over at Shannon airport from the war in Afghanistan.She took peaceful direct action to stop crime being committed by lying down on the runway of the airport. Margaretta is a 79 year old woman who has recently been treated for cancer.” Her son then asks people to send cards to help keep her spirits up.
What a remarkable woman! I include her address here in case anyone else is moved to send a card.
Margaretta D’Arcy c/o Limerick Prison, Mulgrave Street, Limerick, Ireland.
Let’s hope she’s inundated with messages of support and the weight of the postbag alone will make the Prison Authorities and the Irish Government sit up and think.

Rainbow, Fat Ball and Frock

1   There was a glorious rainbow in the middle of one of our stormy showers today. If you look really closely, you can just make out its pale mirror image.

2   Walking through the park to town this afternoon, I noticed that some kind and thoughtful soul had hung a fat-ball for the birds in the young Auraucaria.
