Lunchtime Concert, Rose Window and My Scarf

What a lovely concert in the beautiful Truro Cathedral this lunchtime!  Here is one of our songs which I hope you will enjoy. It is ‘This is My Cornwall’ by Harry Glasson and is almost our Cornish anthem! Thank you to the lovely Mr S for the recording.

We were looking down the cathedral towards the Rose window and at one point the sun came through though I didn’t catch it then as we were singing! The photo was taken as we were leaving.

You will have seen that we all wear black with some splashes of red for our choir performances. This scarf is my new accessory for performances. I bought it specially for the wedding of one of our members for when we sang at her wedding in December and I love it!

Singing, Clematis and A Special Concert

It has been a day full of singing! First it was the Thursday session with The Suitcases which was brilliant as always and where we sang a couple of songs as possibles for the Wedding I am conducting on 20th July where the couple want a small choir to sing for them.  We will need 10/12 to volunteer. Here is a taste of Shoshone Love Song for you.

Thanks to Kenn for the recording.

Our Choir-Baby E was engrossed in her drawing today.

2   The Clematis on the front fence has been in bud for what seems like weeks and today, suddenly, there were lots of beautiful blooms.

3   This afternoon, The Ingleheart Singers, my other choir whom you may have listened to on Monday, did a concert at a local Care Home and it was an utter delight. We sang some Cornish songs which were much appreciated and several of the old people joined in,  all the words and the tunes coming back to them and obviously giving them great pleasure. We also have a war-time medley that we did for the Heligan event last summer and those too had people joining in. One old lady was laughing and singing along and clearly enjoying the concert. I was told later that she usually spends much of her day weeping but today we brought her laughter and some happiness.

Yellow Fields, Home and Singing

Driving home there were fields after fields full of bright yellow, not the daffodils of Cornwall but the blossoms of Oil Seed Rape.

2   It is always so good to come home, however lovely a time we have had visiting family.

3  I went back to singing with The Inglehearts for the first time since my op and it was brilliant. We started with an African favourite of mine, Senwa Dedende. The video is not so good but you might like to hear what we sound like.

PS I have managed to load the photos for yesterday now that we are home again.

Singing, Felting and Carol Singing

1   We had three Choir-babies with us today though W is far from being a baby! It is such a delight to have youngsters growing up with singing and then singing with us.

2   Tonight we sang carols in Falmouth finishing at The Poly where there was a craft fair. Just look at this beautiful felted work and pottery done by my lovely friend, N. It was a delightful evening.

100: The Day Our World Changed – The Afternoon at Heligan

The afternoon at The Lost Gardens evoked the Heligan of the past beautifully with the laundry girls washing the sheets and putting them to dry on the lawn, the gardeners working hard in the kitchen garden and suddenly being told of the outbreak of war and that they would be needed. All the time strains of music could be heard from the local bands and our very own singers from Claire’s three choirs, brought together as the Ingleheart 100 for the day. Click on any photo for detail. Thank you to the lovely Mr S for some of the photos.

The next post will show the rest of the afternoon and evening as the tragic events of the war unfold.

Singing Happy, Cornish Snail and Clematis

1  What a joy to be back singing with The Ingleheart Singers this evening. I have missed it so much! We sang Pharrell Williams’ “Happy’,  Sentimental Journey and Soldiers’ Farewell – all a complete delight to be a part of!  If you want to listen in, here is the link to Happy, not by us yet – that will come later!  Thank you, Claire, for the magic you weave for all the singers in all your choirs.

2  As I came home I spotted a tiny striped snail on a Bluebell leaf. I’m happy to share the leaves with such a beautiful little creature.

Moon, Carol Singing and Snow Dog!

1   The moon this morning, just at the start of dawn, was beautiful and if you look carefully, you can see the pink-tinged vapour trail of a plane as it catches the colour from the sunrise.

2   Here I offer you up a Carol Concert!  These are some videos of our concert on Wednesday in Truro Cathedral, with many thanks to T and D. We start with a beautiful piece May This Room.  Click on any red link to hear Claire Ingleheart’s three choirs singing in the Cathedral.
The Redruth Wassail follows, then Silent Night,  Star of Bethlehem, Dona Nobis and finishing with Rolling Downwards.
I hope you enjoy these carols. We love singing them!

3   I have finished the Snow Dog! He has certainly been a challenge and a labour of love and I love him to bits.  I hope Grand Baby T does too!  For those of you able to get UK TV, the animation will be on Channel 4 at 7.30 on Christmas Eve.

Satisfaction, Box and Concert

1   The decorating is almost finished! We just have to put the paintings back and all will soon be well. That’s a job well done!

2   Today,  I polished up my box where  I keep special things like first haircuts. wedding and birth announcements and noticed again the bee with the flowers. This box was given to me when I was about 11 years old; my Mum bought it at an auction in Truro.  Another time, I will show you some of my treasures.

3   Our choir, The Inglehearts, sang with the children from the village school in whose hall we  practise each week. It was so lovely to sing with the little ones from 4 – 10 years old who did beautifully in their Christmas Concert. I learned a delightful action song about penguins which I will do with our Grandchildren when they are with us at Christmas.

The Ballad of Joe Hill, Singing and Limequats

1  I was reminded of these words of Shelley yesterday

“Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory-  “

when I heard ‘The Ballad Of Joe Hill’ sung by Paul Robeson, one of my all time favourite voices singing one of my lovely Dad’s favourite songs, and one which we played at Dad’s Humanist funeral. It was chosen by Ed Milliband in Desert Island Discs on Sunday and has been in my head ever since. Some of you will know this – but it doesn’t matter how long ago you ‘lost’ a parent, they never actually leave you and music can suddenly bring them back into the kitchen as clearly as if they were still alive.

3   Singing with The Inglehearts tonight was especially good. There’s something very special about singing in harmony with friends. Here’s a public Thank you to Claire Ingleheart for her work, her friendship and her very special talent which she shares so freely.

3   The Crystallised Limequats look beautiful in their jar.

Soup, Sunflower and Singing in Harmony

1   We have so many Runner Beans! The freezer is nearly full and so are we but today we found many recipes for Runner Bean Soup on the internet so I made up my own adapting several of them and it was delicious. We had some for lunch and have 2 pints frozen. More tomorrow!

2   Coming home from town today we saw some glorious sunflowers peeking over the fence about 8ft above us.

3   The new term has started at The Ingleheart Singers and it was so good to get back to singing in harmony again. Apparently singing in harmony is very good for the heart and the brain as well as for the soul. I certainly always feel better after a singing session. If I feel good before I go, I feel brilliant afterwards. On those occasions when I feel low, if I go to choir, I feel better in no time!    I’ve taken the following quotation from an anonymous essay based on Imperfect Harmony: Finding Happiness While Singing With Others by Stacy Horn,  Algonquin Books. I’d love to give credit to the essay writer if anyone knows who it is. Thanks, anyway!

“Singing might be our most perfect drug; the ultimate mood regulator, lowering rates of anxiety, depression and loneliness, while at the same time amplifying happiness and joy, with no discernible, unpleasant side effects. ”

PS The butterfly I was trying to identify yesterday seems to be a female Chequered Skipper. Thanks to lots of you for the help.
