Dinosaur, Onions and Boots to Order

1   The post brought a small package this morning – a delightful present of a Growing Dinosaur from a friend for J our Grandson. He will love this which we will have great  with on his next visit, maybe half-term or Christmas as he started school this term!  Thank you very much L and B, so thoughtful and generous and much appreciated.

New Growth, Suffragette Colours and Knitting

1. The trees have really greened up and make the loveliest living tunnel to drive through.

Greens on a Branch, Secret Garden and Cardigan

1    Beautiful moss, lichen and little ferns were growing on this tree at the Bodmin Herb Nursery where we went to get new herbs to refresh our herb wall. I love all the different shades of green against the vibrant blue of the sky.

Blue House, Blue Sky and Blue Boots

1    In Penryn today, this shiny blue drainpipe caught my eye, then the delightful folds in the shadow of the  Belisha beacon so I crossed the street to get a better shot of the whole lovely house. The door and the pipe are almost the colour of the deep blue sky behind and the unexpected beauty of it all took my breath away.

2   The grey branches and the soft green leaves of the Eucalyptus tree looked so beautiful against the bluest of skies.  How we have missed blue skies over these last few grey months!

3   I’ve just finished some second size boots which should fit our nearly-due Grandchild in the Autumn as the weather is getting colder again. The matching cardigan is almost done.

Thank-you Card, Wise Words and Pancake Day

1   The post today brought a thank-you card for the Sally-boots I knitted for the baby born on my birthday. He is so gorgeous!

2   I came across this cutting from a newspaper from the 50’s which I found in Mum’s desk when I cleared it for polishing. What wise and timeless words indeed, especially, for me,  the last bit.

3   It’s Pancake Day. First we had Savoury Pancakes stuffed with chicken in a white sauce and we followed that tasty course with Boozy Crepes Suzettes – utterly scrumptious!

Sea, Stoat and Sally-Boots

1   From our bedroom this morning, we could see that the sea on the North coast was very rough, white horses all along the horizon so we went down to Chapelporth to feel the wildness of the ocean and the wind, the roar of the waves crashing onto the rock and tried to take photos while being buffeted by the very fierce gusts.

2   On the way home I saw a beautiful creature running across a drive. I identified it when we arrived home and it was a stoat. No chance of a photo but I found this one on a BBC site.

3   I posted some Sally-Boots to a young friend who had her baby girl four weeks early a few days ago. Happily, she’s doing well.  As I was packing them up, I realised where the colour scheme had come from – the orchids that were part of Mr S’s birthday present.

Birthday Cakes, Blue and Sally-boots for a New baby

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY READERS

1  Thank you so much to my dear friends who yesterday gave me such a lovely Birthday Party – to
J&M for inviting us all and for a fabulous dinner, to N for making the most delicious Chocolate Torte and to M for making a scrumptious Victoria sponge; that’s two birthday cakes! Thanks to G, too, for his clever sleuthing a week or two ago in finding out what my favourite birthday cake might be without raising any suspicions!

Thank you to you all, D&T, P&J&J and J, as well as all the aforementioned beautiful people for making the evening such a special one for me.  I’m just sorry that the lovely Mr S wasn’t well enough to be with us and that I had to leave early, being somewhat still under the weather myself. You are all very lovely friends!

2   Neither of us was up to a walk yet though the day has been so beautifully bright so Mr S drove us out to St Agnes Beacon where we had a three minute walk in the extremely strong wind and then were amused for some time by the antics of some model aeroplanes. If you look closely at the sea and sky photo you should spot three of them wheeling about.  To see a full size picture, scroll down to the smaller version and click on that one.   Both the sea and the sky were of the most intense and beautiful blue hues.

3   This afternoon I have made some Sally-boots for the Roberts’ Grandbaby who was born yesterday. Welcome to the world, little one. We share a very special day for a birthday.

I have to add another beautiful thing. I have just this moment opened an e-card from my dear Sister who lives in Hawaii. It is very beautiful and her words have moved me to tears – of happiness. She reads this blog every day and says it makes me feel not quite so far away. Thank you my lovely and much loved Sister.

Feather Marking, Wedding Cakes and Golden-boots

1   Mr S is fitting the trellis against the painted wall and found this beautiful feathery marking on the support pieces.

2  Working on my Guest post for Choc Chip Uru, I was reminded of this time of year six years ago when I was having trial runs for making KJ’s chocolate wedding cake. I had enormous fun making several different recipes and taking them into school for the staff to test out for me. I also did a couple of different decorations so that the bride and groom could choose. The final version had beautiful real white roses on it.

3  Just for fun, I decided to make some tiny Golden-boots, based on the pattern I use for Sally-boots, with possible yarn bombing in mind. Then I thought, ‘Do I really want to lose these?  Er, no!’         I’ll have to devise something less time consuming for the knitted graffiti!

Young Magpie, Piano Practice and Sally-boots

1    We’ve been watching a family of magpies over the last few days. I know they are not very well-behaved but the iridescence of their feathers is very beautiful!  This youngster is trying to find his place in the garden but the pigeon is having none of it!

2     I finally managed to get a tricky piano piece right! It might be Grade 1 but it’s a challenge for me!

3     I’ve finished the Sally-boots for Ionie, the newest baby in the family.
