Angels, Sketch and Pasta

I made my last two angels for this season today before clearing up the dining room for dining in over Christmas. It has delighted me to get my creative mojo back. I’m loving the seaglass head on the second angel. .

More sorting this afternoon and I came across a sketch of my Dad’s.

Lovely Mozzarella Pasta for tonight’s supper using red lentil penne, so pretty.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Frame 2

I was amused to catch a mother catching her son framed in a window of Wheal Coates, an old engine house on the cliffs at Chapel Porth, Cornwall.

Engine Houses, Café and Football Boots

1   On a  Monday evening my choir rehearses in Troon Primary School. These delightful 4″ high models of some of engine houses, ubiquitous around Cornwall, were on display.

2   We discovered a lovely new café in Truro today where the coffee was excellent, the homemade Lemon Drizzle Cake even better than my own and lovely friendly service. It’s Oscar’s on the ground floor of Lemon Street Market. Try it if you are nearby. It really is a gem. We will certainly become regulars!

3   The lovely Mr S was shopping for a shirt and we went into a long established store in Truro, Trevails and he came out with an excellent winter jacket! The shop has actually been there and run by generations of the same family for 95 years!   I remember shopping for my school uniform for Truro Girls’ Grammar School there and I was so proud to be wearing it!  The beautiful things in there today were very special indeed. Have a look and I will tell you the story which the lovely owners told us ……….

Very small football boots

Very small football boots

These beautiful little leather boots with nailed-in leather studs were made especially for the current owner’s father about eighty years ago. The boy was still in Primary School in St Agnes and was such a talented little footballer that the secondary boys wanted him to play in a match for them. His mother went to the shoemakers in St Agnes and had these little boots, child size 10, made for him. They are in such pristine condition because the match was cancelled and the next time he was invited to play with that team, he had grown out of them!
Somehow, they ended up on display with dozens of other shoes in a pub in St Agnes where one day, on a family Sunday outing, Mr Trevail’s mother told him, “Those boots were made for your Dad!”  It took the pub changing hands twice before the newest owner decided that the boots ought to go back to the family where they belonged  and so they are now proudly on display in this splendid and last family owned shop in the city, Trevails.  Go in and have a look if you are in Truro. Go on! You now have two destinations in this beautiful Cathedral city where I grew up!

Golden Onions, Walk and Raw Chocolate Brownie

1   This morning the low beams of the winter sun caught our homegrown plaited onions and made them even more beautiful.

2   We had a walk around the Great Flat Lode behind our house today. There was a surprising amount of colour – golden gorse, Pink Campions, red berries and lovely green moss with ivy leaves and, on this crisp clear day, a very good blue view of the sea on the North coast of Cornwall.

3  I’ve made Raw Chocolate Brownies this afternoon for some friends on Tuesday. They are surprisingly fudgy and yummy!

Texting, Birdwatching, Knitting Toolkit and A Bonus

1   The American branch of the family, my younger brother and my sister-in-law, are staying in St Mawes and we’ve had fun today texting making arrangements to meet up tomorrow, the skies being leaden again today! I’d love to say it’s been beautiful being so quiet but the truth is it’s too quiet and I’m missing everybody so much! The house has been so full of laughter and chatter for a whole week!

2    Being so quiet and, truth to tell, not busy enough, we have had time to notice the birds and my favourites, the Long Tailed Tits, have turned up today. I love it that they live in several generational family groups and at one point we saw ten. At the same time, the Goldfinches, a Blue Tit and a Great Tit were at the feeder. Beautiful!

3   This afternoon I read on  http://agujasblog.com/ about the tools we knitters carry about with us for knitting, was inspired to carry on with my current project (hoodies for both the Grandchildren) and to take a photo of my tool kit which was my Granny’s. It gives me enormous pleasure to know that she and my Mum both used these things before me. Thank you, Veronica.

4   Bonus Beautiful thing!    The sun came out this evening and we went down to Chapelporth to blow away the cobwebs. It was so beautiful and did my spirit much good –  lots of flowers, crashing waves in a turquoise sea and the magnificent Wheal Coates engine house on the cliff.
