Foxglove, An Engine House and Echium

Our walk today was late as we waited for. the rain to stop but the light was good. We often think of our LiveWires when we do this walk as they have enjoyed it with us many times when on holiday here. We have been watching the Foxgloves growing and today saw one just beginning to bloom.

The following photo is for J who, as mentioned, has enjoyed this walk with us and whom we hope will be on The Great Flat Lode with us again before too long. Can you see what’s in the distance, J?

It is Echium season and there are some wonderful examples in neighbours’ gardens. The bees, who love these blooms,  can be heard before one even sees the plant.

Another Lane, Bluebells and Yeast Buns

We often walk along Church lane and love the big Oak Tree at the start of the lane.

Further along, just before we turn up to The Great Flat Lode, we noticed the blue in the fields below Carn Brea and realised that the farmer has mown very carefully around an enormous patch of  Bluebells.

A lovely friend from choir does some top-up shopping for us and today turned up with our shopping and some delicious yeast buns that she had made this morning. We exchanged that for some Blueberry Streusel Cake that I had baked knowing that J would be here in the afternoon.

Back Field, Baby Jay and Thistles

The field behind us used to have sheep grazing but they haven’t been there for sometime and the grass has grown and grown. The sheep returned this morning and could hardly be seen in the long grass. I love that, just as I took the photo, one of next door’s cats walked along the fence.

Later the farmer turned up and started mowing.

Still later, the sheep returned and headed straight down the field towards our hedge.

Our walk today took us round the back, along a short section of The Great Flat Lode where we saw a young Blue Jay.

The Thistle tops were properly purple and gorgeous.

Golden Onions, Walk and Raw Chocolate Brownie

1   This morning the low beams of the winter sun caught our homegrown plaited onions and made them even more beautiful.

2   We had a walk around the Great Flat Lode behind our house today. There was a surprising amount of colour – golden gorse, Pink Campions, red berries and lovely green moss with ivy leaves and, on this crisp clear day, a very good blue view of the sea on the North coast of Cornwall.

3  I’ve made Raw Chocolate Brownies this afternoon for some friends on Tuesday. They are surprisingly fudgy and yummy!

Sunshine, Ice, Green Stuffs and Beyond (Weekly Photo Challenge)

1    There was sunshine for a while today and it made a reflection of our little Bluebird glass etching. I had to be quick! When I tried to take a second photo it had disappeared.

2    We had a brief walk along The Great Flat Lode and the lovely Mr S spotted these icicles made of sap! The tree had been severely cut back and was weeping and its tears had frozen into beautiful icicles.

There were some lovely patterns in the puddles too.

3    So much green stuff is flourishing despite the freezing temperatures – mosses, lichen, gorse…
