Seeds, Crocuses and Long Tails

1    It’s almost March and we went off to the garden centre to buy seeds. One of our raised beds is going to be devoted to flowers for  for the bees and for cutting. We will still be growing three raised beds of veggies.

2   The sun was shining through the tree at the garden centre casting lovely shadows and underneath were a mass of small crocuses.

3   A family of Long Tail Tits has been at the feeders today. They are very skittish and hard to catch on camera. There were eight there at one moment, just two left by the time I had my camera ready and those two were gone in a moment.

Texting, Birdwatching, Knitting Toolkit and A Bonus

1   The American branch of the family, my younger brother and my sister-in-law, are staying in St Mawes and we’ve had fun today texting making arrangements to meet up tomorrow, the skies being leaden again today! I’d love to say it’s been beautiful being so quiet but the truth is it’s too quiet and I’m missing everybody so much! The house has been so full of laughter and chatter for a whole week!

2    Being so quiet and, truth to tell, not busy enough, we have had time to notice the birds and my favourites, the Long Tailed Tits, have turned up today. I love it that they live in several generational family groups and at one point we saw ten. At the same time, the Goldfinches, a Blue Tit and a Great Tit were at the feeder. Beautiful!

3   This afternoon I read on  http://agujasblog.com/ about the tools we knitters carry about with us for knitting, was inspired to carry on with my current project (hoodies for both the Grandchildren) and to take a photo of my tool kit which was my Granny’s. It gives me enormous pleasure to know that she and my Mum both used these things before me. Thank you, Veronica.

4   Bonus Beautiful thing!    The sun came out this evening and we went down to Chapelporth to blow away the cobwebs. It was so beautiful and did my spirit much good –  lots of flowers, crashing waves in a turquoise sea and the magnificent Wheal Coates engine house on the cliff.

The Big Garden Birdwatch, The Beatles and The Treggies

Long-tail tit family

1 We did the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch today and saw 17 different species and 37 birds in the allocated hour. Our delightful  family of six Long-tail Tits joined us along with the Goldcrest which we saw lots of times but always alone so he could only be counted once.

2  My lovely Sister-in-law from Atlanta sent us an email with the following link to ‘The Beatles: Here Comes The Sun! With a Guitar Solo You’ve Never Heard Before’  Magic! Mr S and I met to this song many years ago so it is special for us and this makes it even more so. Have a listen:  http://gizmodo.com/5880091/the-beatles-here-comes-the-sun

3  Singing with The Treggies tonight was, as usual, a good laugh and a challenge, all the more so when H’s keyboard suddenly had an attack of the Clangers so no-one could find their note. It recovered and so did we. Now we’re all ready for The Countryman Shout next Sunday.
