Joy and Singing

Brilliant, heart-warming and positive day today! It has been a day of Harvest celebration with lots of happy people, lots of delicious cakes, wonderful music and lots of laughter, a real uplifting day to be a part of.

Flags, St Mawes and A Lighthouse
It has been the night of the choir’s boat trip. We hire a leisure boat, take food to share and have that on the way from Falmouth to St Mawes where we get off and busk a while collecting for our two charities, ShelterBox and the local Food Bank. On the way home, as the sun is setting, we sing all the way back to Falmouth – a wonderfully happy evening made all the better because LiveWire 3 is with us and joined in all the singing. Just a few pictures as I spent all evening singing!

Tropical Pressure Festival
There was a yellow weather warning for today with thunderstorms and wild winds forecast but all we had were a few showers and, of course, the show went on.
Here are a few highlights. I wish we could have stayed til the very end!

Carrots, Cake and A Gig
We brought home some crazy carrots the other day and I roasted them with garlic and maple syrup and they were delicious.
There were blueberries to be used up so I made a cake.

0ne Hundred and Ten Years On
A hundred and ten years ago, seven women from Cornwall started their walk to Hyde Park in support of getting the vote for women. Ten years ago, some of us walked a little of the way to support their memory and today, another group, again led by Claire Ingleheart and Dreadnaught Southwest, walked from Lands End to St Just to commemorate the day.
In the Plen an Gwarry in St Just the walkers met with another hundred people who had come along to sing to honour those women and the thousands that joined them in a rally in Hyde Park. We all sang Oxygen and it was extremely moving as the seven names of those women were remembered. I was so involved I didn’t get many photos but here is a taster and one of me taken by a friend as we were leaving after the most uplifting community event.

I’ve had the most wonderful afternoon, here wearing my facsimile scarf.
Here is a recording of the Ingleheart Singers singing the wonderful rousing song, Oxygen, in Truro Cathedral some time ago. I had just had my hip replaced and was in the audience able to record though I couldn’t sing on that occasion.
Craftivism, Festival and A Sky Kiss
I love my town! There are always interesting things to be joining in with! Today I went back to Kresen Kernow where my choirs sang Songs of Rebellion as part of the Rebellious Sounds event being organised by Dreadnaught South West. Today we were making badges to celebrate women. Of course, I chose to honour my Great Granny, the Suffragette. My badge isn’t quite finished but you can see the beginnings in the photo of the table where we were working. I’ll show you when I’ve found time to finish it.

As we finished I went off to meet the lovely Mr S just up the road in St Rumon Gardens, as one of our favourite local and very lively bands, The Devil’s Hatband, was about to play as part of the town’s Murdoch Day Festival. The town was buzzing!
I stepped to the front of the audience to catch the photos.
Later, I was called out into our garden to see the sky kiss.

This evening we have been to listen to Angeline Morrison who was playing in the amphitheatre at the Eco park – a beautiful voice and person in a beautiful setting.
There were eight dogs in the audience!
Leaves, Flowers and An Extraordinary Dance Show
We love the ruby acer leaves as they re-appear each Spring. The little tree was a present from our four for our Ruby wedding 16 years ago!
Our Choisya Ternata is wonderful both in how it looks and with its gorgeous honey scent that wafts around the garden.
We went to this extraordinary show at The Hall for Cornwall on Wednesday evening and it was wonderful, utterly engrossing, full of energy and beautifully done. With a soundtrack of wonderful songs by Sting, the dancers move the story from joy to despair, and back to joy, through resilience and determination, made me cry several times and left the audience feeling exhilarated!
