Winter Trees, Puddle and Christmas Lights

After a delicious Christmas lunch at Trennick Mill with our friends, we drove home beside the Truro River and the winter trees stood out against the wintering sky..

Reflected in a puddle

On the Trafalgar roundabout there is a lights model of Truro Cathedral.

Nearly home, we saw a lovely nativity scene in lights.

Lunch Out on a Rainy Day

It’s been a rough weather day today with driving rain, fierce winds and wild, wild seas, and we serendipitously met friends at The Falmouth Hotel for a delicious lunch, watching the waves from inside the dining room.

Park, Ducklings and Tea-Cosies

After a lovely breakfast with friends in Truro, we took a short walk in Boscawen Park. The flower borders are still looking lovely, I like the design of the signs and I loved watching the ducklings.

Afterwards when shopping I saw some quirky  and very attractive tea-cosies made by Poppy Treffrey,  a maker and designer I have only just become aware of but whose website is a delight. See it here.

Blues, Brunch and A Dog

The colours of the sea were just glorious when we went to the Blue Bar for brunch this morning. Walking on the beach afterwards we were in awe of a couple of swimmers enjoying the cold water and of the extremely well behaved dog who sat and watched for ages. It turned out that these two were friends from Roots and we had big wet hugs and lots of laughs together.

Loaded banana bread with vanilla mascarpone and fruit compote with crispy bacon – absolutely delicious!

Valentine’s Day and A Poem

Happy Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s or Palentine’s – whatever floats your boat!

I have a couple of favourite love poems. Today I give you Carol Ann Duffy’s Valentine, one the teenagers in my English classes really took to.

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring,
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

We have been out this evening to Home Ground’s Pizza night, a delicious meal, all handmade from fresh ingredients, in lovely cosy surroundings and a really lovely ambience.

Daisy, Terrace and Lunch with a View

This little daisy in the moss and little green leaves, lit up when the sun came out today.

Driving through Hayle today, I just managed to get a photo of this colourful terrace.

We had a delicious lunch, Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup with a cheese scone, at the cafe at Godrevy today with the most glorious view over to St Ives.

Swan, Autumn Leaves and Guinea Pigs

After singing this morning there was one swan in the mud where the tidal  Penryn  river had gone out.

Some of the trees across the river were in lovely autumn colour.

Lots of local people were invited to be guinea pigs as our Buttermarket food hall opened for a trial run. We had a fabulous evening in what will be Cornwall’s only street food kitchens in a properly lovely venue, the renovated and restored Buttermarket in Redruth. The official opening will be next week and we can’t wait to go back. We are so lucky to have this wonderful new venue in Redruth.

Thank you to all of you who sent love  and condolences in one form or another today, it’s been good to feel the love.

Guest Blogger Catch-up

On Thursday, I went to choir with Granny as I always do. This session was extra special as it was ‘Sing for your heart’ instead of regular choir. So it wasn’t just the Suitcase Singers but it was also people from the public who wanted to just sing for their hearts. At the end we did a sound bath where me and Granny and other pairs stood back to back surrounded by a circle of basses, altos and sopranos. First the basses sang a hollowing note then the altos joined in with perfect harmony and finally the sopranos sang an angelic high note as a cherry on top. As they got closer and closer towards us in the middle, the sound got fuller and fuller. Everything in my mind was still and empty and at that point it was almost like white noise in the most beautiful way. I recommend.

We went to Truro to mooch about the shops and swerve around the cobbles. We also had our delicious Cornish pasties and no pesky seagulls stole them.

Before our delicious feast this evening,  we went to see my great Grandmama and Grandadad’s bench which was dedicated to them. It was a simple yet beautiful sight to see and lovely to see how much beloved they were by our family.

Granny and Grandad took us, as well as my Uncle and Auntie, to Home Ground in Redruth where we had pizzas, pasta and many servings of Tiramisu.

Walking home after dinner, three ‘kids’ and one LiveWire. Three of us went home by car!

See you guys soon, can’t wait to be back!

Humanism, Breakfast and Double Daisy

It is World Humanism Day today.

We met friends at The Blue Bar in Porthtowan for breakfast again this morning and had a super indulgent and very tasty meal.  The wind was too cold and rough for our intended walk on the beach afterwards.

Waffle with berries, mascarpone and honey with a side of crispy bacon

One of our daisies was broken off in the wind so I brought it in and then realised that it is a double! I’ve never seen one like it before.

I hope you can see the magical doubleness

Tastes of Tuscany – Meals

Oh my, we ate some delicious food!  Some I can give you the name, others, I forgot to get a photo of the menu.  Such beautiful presentation and absolutely delicious. It was really lovely to share them with new friends K and A.

Our meal in Pistoia was another treat.
