What a fabulous afternoon being a part of celebrating the Centenary of some women getting the vote! We all gathered in Mawnan Smith – The Mawnan Smith W I, singers from my choirs, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows and many supporters and we marched along to Trebah Gardens, singing some of the way when we had enough breath! We finished in the amphitheatre and sang for all the wonderful people who had joined us along the way. Such a wonderful feeling of solidarity, such a deep feeling of community and an acknowledgement that there is still some way to go and that we must carry on where our sisters have fought before. Rose, Dendrites and Raspberries
Just look at this glorious rose! It was a present from dear friends for our Golden Wedding Anniversary last summer. It smells divine as well as looking so spectacular.
We are late in cleaning our terrace this year but the joy in discovering the dendrites anew each year is still a delight.
We have made a cage around our Raspberry bed this afternoon to protect the fruit from the birds.
Colours, Bee and The Cause
Inspired by Ali of The Mindful Gardener, I collected today’s dead-headings together and she is right, they do make a lovely palette.
The bees are busy – thankfully.
Tonight we are going to see The Cause by Dreadnought Southwest, an imaginary meeting between two redoubtable women, Millicent Fawcett and Emmeline Pankhurst. You can read more about the play here.
Fabulous play! If you get the chance to see it, do go – it is mesmerising and moving.
Door Stop, River View and White
There was a delightful door stop keeping the fresh air flowing in the Muddy Beach cafe after singing today. This one won’t steal your chips!
It is always lovely looking across the Penryn River.
The white part of our garden is coming along well – Lupins, Poppies and White Foxgloves.
Troon, Garden and Bullfinch
Leaving Troon last night where my choir rehearses in the Primary School, there was no-one else on the road so I stopped to take a photo of their lovely welcome to their village, a planted up model of an engine house.
We are pleased with how our garden is looking. It will be even better when the Sweet peas are in flower.
A pair of Bullfinches are nesting nearby and feeding regularly at our feeders.
Mum, Imagine and A Memory
It’s twenty five years since my lovely Mum died. I love this photo of her with her little brother. She must have been about six or seven and he about two or three. I wish I knew.
A very good friend, folk singer John the Fish, sang ‘Imagine’ at Mum’s Humanist funeral.
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for todayImagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peaceYou may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as oneImagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the worldYou may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one.
The following photo was taken in Carn Brea Castle, just nearby, on the occasion of Mum and Dad’s Golden Wedding in 1989. They were married on September 2nd 1939, the day before war was declared and had their honeymoon in Blackpool rather than Paris which had been the chosen destination.
Cake, Buoy and A Singing Trip
I made a vegan Chocolate, Date and Coffee cake for our shared supper on board for The Suitcases boat trip from Falmouth to Mylor to sing and then along the River past all the lovely creeks and inlets. Our singing went down well with our audiences. Click on any photo for the caption and a bigger view.
Redruth Market, Guard Dog and Thrift
The inaugural Redruth Street Market was held today and it was lovely to see our small town buzzing. We had pizzas for lunch from the travelling pizza van, Flour Power Pizza Parlour and they were delicious!
Sunsets this last weeks have been amazing so we went off to the cliffs to watch another beauty take place. There we met a beautiful dog guarding its owner who was asleep in his van after surfing.
The Thrift along the cliffs was glorious too.
Raindrop, Dogwood and Sheep
A walk around Burncoose Nursery and gardens today, just for fun, not intending to buy anything, found puddles everywhere and droplets in the Lupin leaves after the morning rain. I love the patterns made here. Zoom in if you can.
We really wanted to buy the beautiful Dogwood, China Girl, but can’t really find room for it.
We are enjoying watching the lambs in the back field growing up. There seem to be five now, of various sizes. I have to be very careful taking photos, keeping my distance or one of the sheep takes fright and they all rush to follow. I took this photo from the upstairs bedroom on a long zoom.
