Water, Trees and A Feather

It has been a glorious day and we walked the Woodland Walk at Trelissick. Before we left I planted the blue tulips, at least 8″ deep as instructed. I’ll let you see them in the Spring but will not wish the days away until then. As my very wise Mum used to say, ” Live one day at a time and don’t ever wish a day done before its time.”  Click on any photo in the gallery for more detail and the caption.

Snail, Lighthouse and Furriness

A very windy walk this afternoon but still, of course, beauty to be found.

We have just arrived home from a fabulous gig – Ralph McTell at the Hall for Cornwall, memories of the old days at a folk club when we were very young and just as good as ever!

A Walk With A Friend, A Poem and A Web

A ‘hippie’ friend and I had a walk around her village today in misty spider web weather so here is a gallery of some of the beautiful things we spotted and a lovely poem by the very talented Kim Ridgeon,  sent my way today by another dear friend. Click on any photo for the caption and to see more detail. My hippie friend also has two new hips!

Tulips, Grapes and W B Yeats

We have been given some beautiful thank you presents today – some Blue Tulip bulbs from Amsterdam for feeding the cats next door (always a pleasure) and I shall plant them tomorrow.img_0155

The other lovely present was a big bunch of home-grown grapes for lending our travel cot to another friend and neighbour for a big family gathering.

dscn7011I heard the last two lovely lines of this poem by W B Yeats on the radio today in a tribute to Terry Wogan, from a poem I didn’t know and had to look up. Here it is, hope you like it as much as I do.

The Song of Wandering Aengus
I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.
When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire a-flame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And someone called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.
Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

Nasturtiums, September Rain and More Earrings

Drawing the curtains back this morning, the Nasturtiums which are growing through a neighbour’s hedge across the road caught my eye.

It is September and it is raining reminding me of my Mum and Dad’s song, September in the Rain. They married on September 2nd 1939 and war was declared the very next day so instead of going to Paris as planned they had two nights in Blackpool. Some of the words seem quite prescient now.

           “September In The Rain”

The leaves of brown came tumbling down
Remember, in September, in the rain
The sun went out just like a dying ember
That September in the rainTo every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me it’s still September
That September in the rainTo every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me it is still September
That September in the rain
That September that brought the pain
That September in the rain

I bought these black and red earrings at The Heard Museum in Phoenix, Navajo jewellery again, and they are for wearing at gigs where our ‘uniform’ is black with red and sparkle – perfect! I wore them at our Peace concert last week.

St Ives, Baka Beyond and Spring Bulbs

St Ives is beautiful what ever the weather or the time of day. It was raining last night but that special light that drew artists to the town was still evident.

Baka Beyond were wonderful – we danced all night! It was a great delight to meet up again with Ayodele Scott, the percussionist who is a friend of our son.

I have planted bulbs today, Tete à Tete and Muscari in tubs and in our beautiful Three Wise Monkeys planter, made by the very talented Jeremy Beswick. We have to wait 6 months for them to be in flower…….

Earrings, A Flower and A Gig

I bought a few new pairs of earrings on our trip to Arizona! These Navajo ones were made by Rose Fowler and we bought them at the viewpoint along Oak Creek Canyon. Rose explained that the Bear represents strength, wisdom and healing; the Feather – trust, strength, power and freedom and the Turquoise – water, sky and a hope for security and beauty. Obviously, these earrings were made for me and I love them.

Our garden is being battered by wind and rain but the Japanese Anemones are just about surviving.

Tonight we are going to St Ives to a Baka Beyond gig as part of the September Festival and are really looking forward to it.

Cyclamen, A Toad and Red Tailed Hawk

These tiny cyclamen are flowering even as the weather turns quite cold.dscn6949

We found a toad near the compost. I haven’t identified it but the colours are lovely.

As we were leaving the Grand Canyon, up near Jacob Lake I saw a beautiful, large, black and white bird with a fanned out red tail. As we pulled in to the area to change drivers, we saw a bunch of bird spotters so I asked them if they could identify the bird I had seen and they did – a Red Tailed Hawk. The photo is not mine, sadly.

If you are reading this tonight, R, just wanted to say that I missed your lovely smiles at Pilates this morning. Hope all is well.

Still Waters, A Cloud and A Bunch of Flowers

Singing by The Penryn River was beautiful this morning as there was no wind and the reflections almost perfect in the still waters.

I loved the reflection of a cloud in the river.dscn6940

I heard this morning that two good friends are a bit under the weather so I found a few of our last flowers in the garden and made up a small bouquet to take down the road. Carn Brea can just be seen in the background.

World Peace Day, One Day One Choir and Love

Today twenty Cornish choirs have been singing outside Truro Cathedral or in the nearby Methodist Church in an event which spanned eight hours. To quote one of my lovely singing buddies, Jan,  “What a truly magical, uplifting, awe inspiring, heart wrenching, happy, wonderful day spent in Truro with friends from everywhere celebrating World Peace Day! How we all need to smile, send our love and peace to all our brothers and sisters and stop this nastiness, unrest and hatred!
I am going to try and be nice to everyone !”

A huge Thank you to Paul for the enormous amount of organisation that must have gone on to make this such a smooth running, successful and satisfyingly moving day.
