Nasturtiums, September Rain and More Earrings

Drawing the curtains back this morning, the Nasturtiums which are growing through a neighbour’s hedge across the road caught my eye.

It is September and it is raining reminding me of my Mum and Dad’s song, September in the Rain. They married on September 2nd 1939 and war was declared the very next day so instead of going to Paris as planned they had two nights in Blackpool. Some of the words seem quite prescient now.

           “September In The Rain”

The leaves of brown came tumbling down
Remember, in September, in the rain
The sun went out just like a dying ember
That September in the rainTo every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me it’s still September
That September in the rainTo every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me it is still September
That September in the rain
That September that brought the pain
That September in the rain

I bought these black and red earrings at The Heard Museum in Phoenix, Navajo jewellery again, and they are for wearing at gigs where our ‘uniform’ is black with red and sparkle – perfect! I wore them at our Peace concert last week.

Earrings, A Flower and A Gig

I bought a few new pairs of earrings on our trip to Arizona! These Navajo ones were made by Rose Fowler and we bought them at the viewpoint along Oak Creek Canyon. Rose explained that the Bear represents strength, wisdom and healing; the Feather – trust, strength, power and freedom and the Turquoise – water, sky and a hope for security and beauty. Obviously, these earrings were made for me and I love them.

Our garden is being battered by wind and rain but the Japanese Anemones are just about surviving.

Tonight we are going to St Ives to a Baka Beyond gig as part of the September Festival and are really looking forward to it.
