New Toy, Chocolate Strawberry Roulade and Kaia

1 I love my new bread making toy. It’s made of silicone and you can weigh, mix, knead, prove and bake all in the same container! The bread was delicious too, Oat and Linseed so also very good for us! I’ll show you the whole process in another post soon.

2 We’ve had good friends round for supper in the garden this evening and as well as the bread (and a delicious Chicken and Avocado Salad) I made a scrumptious Chocolate and Strawberry Roulade. Recipes to follow soon.

1 The horses in our back field were moved to a further field today but before they went, I caught these beautiful photos as they were close to our wall.

What a magical garden we have discovered today. Just come with us through the jungle and feel the peace and pleasure we had walking through this haven. We spent three hours wandering around this amazingly beautiful garden and being delighted by something new around every corner be it the beautiful and exotic planting or the astonishing sculptures by internationally renowned artists. Penryn Arts Festival and Enys Gardens

What a beautiful day full of art! Nature’s art was in fact the highlight of my day when we watched a beautiful butterfly getting nectar for well over five minutes.

Our morning was spent in and around Penryn enjoying both the delightful opes and alleys and the art on offer. My favourite was Porous Penryn, a project where the artists, Etheridge and Persighetti, were putting temporary tattoos of special bits of the town onto people and photographing them in the place where the photo had been taken. After lunch at Miss Peapod’s and some very enjoyable interactive art nearby we went off to Enys gardens for the Embedded exhibition. I wrote about Enys in this post too. The house is in need of much restoration but was used to great advantage for the exhibition. I love the trail of cake and beads on pretty china which led up the stairs and along corridors to a wedding dress and broken pearls in one room and the Groom’s clothes hanging in another . The story is mine! The lovely Mr S didn’t see the installation in the same romantic and rather tragic way!

My final photo today was taken from the peaceful and enchanting arbour where we listened to a magical recording called “Lazy tremblings of the summer air” and watched the beautiful butterfly featured at the beginning of this post which, if you look very closely, you will see in the middle left of the photo.

Sun, Penzance and Optimism

1 When we collected my brother from Newquay Airport just over two weeks ago there was the most beautiful sunset. Today, as we took him back to go home to Munich, there was a pretty sunrise and now it’s all quiet again and we are catching upon all the things that stood still while we enjoyed time together.

2 We went to Penzance this afternoon for the Literary Festival and a talk, ‘Sailing round Cornwall’ by our good friend, Sue Kittow which we thoroughly enjoyed. The town was full of flags for the various summer festivals.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Relic

Here in Cornwall, UK, we are surrounded by relics from the tin and copper mining industry. Engine houses and other old mine works dot the countryside and the coastline and The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, or ‘Cornish Mining’, was inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 13 2006. World Heritage status gives international recognition to Cornish Mining’s contribution to the development of our modern industrial society.

Cornish miners took their expertise all over the world and it is said that wherever there is a hole in the ground, you’ll find a ‘Cousin Jack’, a Cornishman. It’s a fascinating site. Falmouth, Lunch and A Reflection

We spent the afternoon in Falmouth today after lunch at The Gylly Beach Cafe, Visited the Maritime Museum and M shopped for Cornish delicacies to take home to Munich – another lovely day. So many shops in Falmouth have a spectacular view from the windows in the shop.

There was a new menu at The Gylly. I had the chowder and it was one pf the best meals I have had there – and that’s saying something!

Truro, Quilting and Singing

1 We had a lovely day out in Truro today and the highlight for me was the …..

2 ……… Quilting Exhibition, Saints of Cornish Churches, in Truro Cathedral. The works were fabulous! I give you just a small selection here and am sorry that I didn’t visit earlier to spread the word about them. Sadly, today was the last day. I hope each quilt will be going to its relevant Church or will be displayed somewhere else as they are magnificent pieces of art. Do read the information about the particular Saint depicted and about the artist’s intentions. Please do click on each photo to appreciate the intricacies and the beauty of these works of art.
