Sketch, Cookie Cutters and A Leaf

We have had a sketch book of my Dad’s for many years and I thought I had taken out and given away the various sketches. I brought it down today so that the LiveWires can use the paper for their delightful drawings and discovered another of dad’s drawings, of Wheal Busy. My Dad was an author of children’s books and adult historical romances – a man of many talents.

I sent for some new biscuit cutters so will have fun with the LiveWires making Autumn biscuits.

At Chapelporth the other evening I took this photo of another photographer up high on the rocks.

This next was of balancing dancers in Falmouth last summer.

I love how this next silhouette of an old engine house chimney has furry edges.

I dedicate these photos of Cornwall to my sister, Deborah, whose birthday it is today.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Relic

Here in Cornwall, UK, we are surrounded by relics from the tin and copper mining industry. Engine houses and other old mine works dot the countryside and the coastline and The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, or ‘Cornish Mining’, was inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 13 2006. World Heritage status gives international recognition to Cornish Mining’s contribution to the development of our modern industrial society.
Click on this link if you would like to know more about the history of Cornish mining and miners. Cornish miners took their expertise all over the world and it is said that wherever there is a hole in the ground, you’ll find a ‘Cousin Jack’, a Cornishman.  It’s a fascinating site.  Please click on any photo for greater detail.
