Brian Patten, Optimistic October and A Pie

I was saddened to hear of the death of Brian Patten whose poems I have shared many times on here. We were lucky enough to meet him many years ago and what a lovely man he was. If you put his name in my search, you’ll find lots of his beautiful writing.  The following one is particularly apt right now and is the one I shared when our lovely neighbour Bill Mitchell died seven years ago

In fact, the Chicken and Leek pie doesn’t look very beautiful but it tasted delicious!

New Bed, Look on the Bright Side and Knitting

1. The Grandchildren put cat treats into Bob’s new bed to encourage her to try it out.

2. Always look on the bright side of life! My initial feeling on being told that my hip op could be as late as March 2015 when I had been expecting it to be in December was horror and disappointment. I just want to be on the other side of the whole thing. But….. The bright side? I won’t have to miss any Christmas parties now!

3. I have a knitting challenge on. Can you guess what I have been asked to make?

Sun, Penzance and Optimism

1    When we collected my brother from Newquay Airport just over two weeks ago there was the most beautiful sunset. Today, as we took him back to go home to Munich, there was a pretty sunrise and now it’s all quiet again and we are catching upon all the things that stood still while we enjoyed time together.

2   We went to Penzance this afternoon for the Literary Festival and a talk,  ‘Sailing round Cornwall’ by our good friend, Sue Kittow which we thoroughly enjoyed. The town was full of flags for the various summer festivals.

3    One of my young friends sent me this some time ago and I missed. G.S., you were right! I love it!
