Small Kindnesses, Gool Peran Lowen and A Mural
I first read this poem in October 2023 and the poet, Danusha Laméris , kindly gave me permission to use it then. Here it is again, and, I feel, needed even more now as we support each other through these very difficult times.
Happy St Piran’s day to all those around the world who love our bit of the UK!
The new mural in town was ‘opened’ on Saturday when we held our St Piran celebrations.
Ballet, Cornish and Tossers
We’ve been to the Hall for Cornwall this evening to see The Nutcracker by the Mergaliyev Classical Ballet company and what joy that was. I’ve come away feeling proper happy. We loved the live music, watching the musicians almost as much of a treat as watching the ballet.
I thought you might like to read a little bit of Cornish on the safety curtain at the interval.
Waiting to pay for parking in Truro afterwards my eye was caught by a shop front.
Happy New Year, Happiness Calendar and Flowers
I wish all my Dear Readers a Happy New Year.
These words from Neil Gaiman sum up my wishes for each of you
Here is this month’s Happiness calendar. If you’d like to see more, follow this link.
There are some flowers in our garden as 2022 begins, all a bit wibbly because of the wind..

Nadelik Lowen and Baking
Nadelik Lowen is Cornish and is wishing the shoppers in the Market Way in Redruth a Happy Christmas as in this lovely shop window.
I’ve made some bread this afternoon for a soup and bread outdoor lunch at the allotment tomorrow after a two hour working party tidying the place up. I’m calling it a Tear and Share loaf. The lovely Mr S calls it a Bunch of Buns.
Singing, Penguins and Chocolate Torte
A week ago, just 15 of us gathered at the Eco Park to sing Cornish Christmas carols in a safe and socially distanced way. Enjoy listening to us. For this who wanted to know, I’m right at the end singing “Thy beloved name!” I’m elsewhere too so you can watch again from the start if you like, even perhaps contribute to one of our charities. Nadelik Lowen is Happy Christmas in Cornish.
Photographer Tobias Baumgaertner captured this image of two widowed fairy penguins looking over the Melbourne skyline. It has won an award in Oceanographic magazine’s Ocean Photography Awards 2020.
The backstory is so heartwarming. The lighter penguin is an elderly female whose partner died this year. The darker one is a younger male who lost his partner two years ago. Biologists have followed them as they meet every night to comfort each other. They stand for hours together watching the city lights.
I made our Chocolate Amaretti Torte this afternoon, one for us and one for our daughter who is visiting for an outdoor pasty lunch tomorrow, looking forward to eating it soon!
P.S. We saw the Great Conjunction tonight for a few moments when the clouds parted!
