Hi everyone! I’m back and glad! This was our last full day in Cornwall but it has been, of course ,wonderful so far. Today, I went to Choir with Granny and was probably one of the best ones I’ve been to. Everybody is always so nice and welcoming and loves to help me during songs I don’t know. My favourite song was a Liberian song where we sang Cockadoodledoo in Liberian so if I ever want to go to Liberia, I can say Cockadoodledoo!
(I’ve tried to add an MP4 here but it’s not working – yet)

The day was foggy and murky yet seeing the ship wrecks on the mud was like a scarecrow in a field of daisies.

Later on, we went to Porthtowan for what was meant to be a fleeting encounter with the waves and pebbles but we got caught up and forgot time was running and stayed there for almost an hour stepping over stones and finding lettered pebbles.

Storm Kathleen and A Photo

Storm Kathleen has been pretty wild today but a photographer friend caught a wonderful  photograph of Penzance. Thanks to Kris, for letting me share this with you, dear Readers.

As Kris wrote: “It feels like it’s been ages since I ventured out with my camera however I made a big effort this afternoon and it was somewhat blustery out there, here in Penzance. Strong south-westerly winds brought ‘Storm Kathleen’ into Mounts Bay with severe gale-force winds of 50mph plus creating massive waves over the promenade. It was also a little warmer as the winds dragged in very mild air from the tropics. I hope you like my picture!”

Birthday Cakes and Storm Clouds

Lovely family day, eleven of us here today,  and two birthday cakes!

Storm clouds on the horizon….

Whether you write the date as we do in the UK or as they do in the US, today’s date is fun!  311223 or maybe even better is US 123123!

Beach, Boots and Frank the Cat

After being treated to a delicious brunch at The Blue Bar in Porthtowan we had a very windy walk on the beach. A couple of the gusts nearly had me blown over but LiveWire 4 marched all over the beach, collecting stones and having fun.

One of the family decided to go for a paddle!

Later, we visited our lovely friends and spent some time admiring their very beautiful young cat, Frank.

Lemn Sissay

The wonderful Lemn Sissay has given me permission to share his poem with you.

Let there be peace
Let tears evaporate to form clouds, cleanse themselves
And fall into reservoirs of drinking water.
Let harsh memories burst into fireworks that melt
In the dark pupils of a child’s eyes
And disappear like shoals of silver darting fish,
And let the waves reach the shore with a
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Listening to him on Radio 4 recently, I learned that one of the songs we sing at choir is one of his morning poems. I’ll try to get a recording soon.

Guest blogger again!

Hi, It’s LiveWire 3 again! This time we arrived spontaneously because we love coming here and take every chance we get to come to Cornwall and see our family! Today we had a magical beach trip to Kynance Cove which was unimaginably beautiful. It was like being in Spain or Italy! The water was bluer than sapphire, it was like a matching outfit, the sky as a shirt, the sea as trousers. It was absolutely idyllic!

In the evening, we traveled up the ferny hill to a castle, but not just any castle, a restaurant! The castle floated over some massive rocks and it felt like we were royals in the 16th century! We walked up the stairs and sat down, surrounded by stones and sunshine. It was so cosy – especially with the candles! Our food was so delicious and I don’t think the plates even needed to be cleaned after we’d finished!

We watched the sunset through the windows and as we left everything was orange so we stood behind those massive rocks and just immersed ourselves in the sunlight.

Flags, St Mawes and A Lighthouse

It has been the night of the choir’s boat trip. We hire a leisure boat, take food to share and have that on the way from Falmouth to St Mawes where we get off and busk a while  collecting for our two charities, ShelterBox and the local Food Bank.  On the way home, as the sun is setting, we sing all the way back to Falmouth – a wonderfully happy evening made all the better because LiveWire 3 is with us and joined in all the singing.  Just a few pictures as I spent all evening singing!

Flags over the pier where we boarded the boat.

Bread buns made by LiveWire 3 and me this morning. WE also made the Oat and Date Slice but forgot to take a photo.

What a wonderful spread!

St Mawes from the water as we were leaving, singing Goodbye Sweetheart!

St Anthony Lighthouse, seen on the way home across the water

Breakfast and A Good Read

Sorry! Somehow forgot to publish yesterday. 🙁

We met our friends for breakfast by the sea again today and what a lovely time we had – good food, good conversation and lots of laughs.

There were occasional showers while we were in the Gylly cafe. You can see the dark clouds hovering. It has rained all afternoon and I have curled up with a cracking good read, another of Elly Griffiths’ gripping thrillers. This is the first of the series so I have hours of reading ahead of me……..

Reflection, Surfers and A Number Plate

Daughter No 1 has been with us today to celebrate her birthday so we’ve been to the beach, watched the surfers and the incoming tide for over an hour, called in at The Blue Bar for hot chocolates and cake, talked and talked and talked and had a delicious birthday dinner.  She travelled in her favourite car which has a new personalised number plate, part of her birthday present. I love it!.

Charities, Posy and A Beach

The river this morning when we started singing was very calm and the masts reflected almost perfectly.  After singing we had two visitors from the charities we have supported over the last year, Penhaligon’s Friends and ShelterBox, £400 to each, thanks to our generous audiences.  Here we are presenting the cheques to their representatives.

Photo thanks to Mandy Rolleston

This afternoon we visited our dear friend, Ti and took her a little bouquet of flowers from our garden.

Afterwards we went to Godrevy for a walk in the chilly air with the glorious warmth of the sun on our backs – a day of apricity!
