Welly Dog, Bullfinch and A Dunnock

19 Apr

Welly Dog spent the afternoon on the bench today while the lawn was mown. He seemed quite happy up there with the blue flowers mentioned yesterday,  forget-me-nots under the bench and bluebells in the foreground.

We had lots of bird visitors on this beautiful Spring day, among them the Bullfinch at the feeder and a Dunnock, like a sparrow but with pink legs, perched at the top of the old pan stand.

Does Welly Dog get a “move with a view” each time you mow?

Love that, move with a view!
Yes, we do pop him in different places when the mowing takes place. I will encourage him to have different views to enjoy.

I love that you get bullfinches. I haven’t seen one since I was a teenager living in Wakefield.

We love the variety of finches that we get but the RSPB has asked everyone to stop feeding finches between May and October as there’s a disease going round. We just have to feed with fat balls and meal worms, not the sunflower hearts.

I had to stop using fat balls as they attract the rats.

You have reminded me that we did have a rat problem some years ago and I wonder if that’s why we stopped using fat balls……
We shall see – I hope we don’t develop a problem. I did not like seeing them in the garden.

How wonderful your birds, you have a great variety there. I do love that blue everywhere of Bluebells and Camassias – a perfect mix.

I heard that too. We don’t want them to get ill. 🙏

Better they stay well and we’ll welcome them back in October. 🙂
