Leeks, The Sculpture and A Song

I brought home some baby leeks from Roots this week and made them into a delicious Creamy Mushroom and Leek Orzo dish.

The sculpture next door has some more metal added.

Two cyclists went by yesterday and one asked the other, “What do you think that is?”  The second one replied, “Looks like they’re drilling for oil!”

The lovely song Harbour by Anna Tabbush sung by The Suitcase Singers.

Pooch, Volunteer and Primroses

At Roots this morning, while I was sowing cabbage abd kale seeds, a very cute little dog came to see me. I am not a dog lover (having been traumatised as a child)  but this one was gentle and delightful.

I love how this volunteer pink primrose has planted itself in the gravel of our drive.

The pale yellow primroses are my favourite of all Spring flowers.

This afternoon we went to say goodbye to the husband of my very dear choir friend who has been my mentor at choir since I joined the Ingleheart singers in 2008.  We’ve sung together since then and today, at the end of the wake, there being lots of choir members there, we sang the Celtic Blessing for them both. It felt very special.

The peace of the running wave to you
The peace of the flowing air to you
The peace of the quiet earth to you
And the peace of the shining stars to you
And the peace of the Son of Peace to you.

International Day of Happiness

Just look at the view from the Zed Shed where we rehearsed this morning  and then listen to an African piece that we sang today. Thanks to S for the recording. I hope both contribute to your happiness!

White Horse

We are just back from seeing the brilliant White Horse by o-region   at our local theatre –  an entrancing performance with live music, puppetry, film and story telling. It’s written and directed by Simon Harvey, based on  Michael Morpurgo’s White Horse & Other Stories. As the Radio 4 Today programme said a week ago when interviewing Michael Morpurgo and Simon Harvey about their show, “It’s being premièred in the West End (in Redruth!)”.  They plan on taking it on tour next year so find it if you can.

Ballet, Cornish and Tossers

We’ve been to the Hall for Cornwall this evening to see The Nutcracker by the Mergaliyev Classical Ballet company and what joy that was. I’ve come away feeling proper happy. We loved the live music, watching the musicians almost as much of a treat as watching the ballet.

I thought you might like to read a little bit of Cornish on the safety curtain at the interval.

Waiting to pay for parking in Truro afterwards my eye was caught by a shop front.

Singing and Heralds of Spring

That was just the best afternoon! Singing started again after a break of a whole month. It was really good to see everyone  but that was eclipsed by singing together in harmony again. My goodness, it raises ones endorphins!  We started with Pachabel’s Canon, a five part harmony that I first learned at a workshop at WOMAD and went on to ‘We wish you all  good things.’  I don’t have a recording of us singing but I do have our leader, Claire, singing all the parts.  I pass on all the sentiments to you, Dear Reader.

And a lovely choir friend has just sent me a video of this afternoon’s singing – so full of joy – thank you L..

Just one Grape Hyacinth has appeared in a tub, not where I planted them!

Crocuses are beginning to appear.

Cards, Cake and Singing in the Stable

Not much sowing or planting going on at Community Roots at the moment so we finished off the Christmas cards that will go out with every veggie bag this week.

Today’s cake was a Christmas tree shaped Lemon Drizzle.

This evening we, The Suitcase Singers, have been singing at Cusgarne Manor. Because it was raining the event was moved into the stables which turned out to have wonderful acoustics. Another splendid evening with a wonderful enthusiastic and very generous audience. Tonight we were collecting for ShelterBox and Georgia’s Voice.

Baubles, Primroses and A Gig

We’ve put lots of shiny baubles on our growing Christmas tree in the garden and  love the effect. I popped one of my glass angels at the top.

Primroses are my favourite flowers and finding them in the garden this morning was a delight. This photo is for Nancy.

Hope you will be very happy in your new home. 🙂

After choir this afternoon, we went to a local pub for our annual carol sing. It was brilliant, the crowds loved it especially our rendition of Fairytale of New York. We collect for our charities at all our gigs.

Jaclarabag

Tonight I’ve just been to a brilliant gig in Redruth Wesley Chapel, a delightful evening of eclectic music from three fabulous  musicians who play 14 instruments between them.

They are on tour at the moment so if you get the chance to see them, do go. You’ll come away smiling and full of endorphins!

Friendship Matters

I missed choir this morning but my lovely choir friends were thinking of us, one with a photo of the Penryn River and one with a recording of The Suitcase Singers singing one of my favourite songs, Harbour by Anna Tabbush.

Thanks, J, for this photo

Thank you S for this recording, very much appreciated.
