Breakfast, A Rose and Gifts

Fluffy blueberry pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup was my breakfast treat – the lovely Mr S chose not to have the bacon but I love the sweet and savoury combo.

A rose we were given for our Golden Anniversary three years ago is still, in mid October, giving us beautifully scented blooms.

We’ve been at the allotment for hours today in beautiful Autumn sunshine trying to get the better of all the weeds. We have made progress. One I pulled up was a carrot which we have had for tea along with two Sweetcorn cobs which have been left behind by the previous owner. We have landed in a lovely community. One fellow allotmenteer kindly gave us a cucumber and some tomatoes this afternoon.

Dawn, Plantings and Apple Pie

This is a very good time of year for a slug-a-bed like me to see beautiful dawns!

I was so excited yesterday about getting the allotment that I missed the plantings I had done in the morning – lots more bulbs – tulips in the two big tubs that had Sweet peas in over the summer and Winter flowering pansies on top for colour, hopefully, until the Tulips show. The chilli flakes around the plants are supposed to keep rodents away from the bulbs……

I’ve made an apple pie this afternoon, the recipe for which I was given by my sister who lives in America, Hawaii now but New York when we visited many years ago and she made this delicious pie. It is no ordinary apple pie! It contains its own special creamy custard which is added after it comes out of the oven and it is absolutely scrumptious. Thanks again, Deborah.

Allotment, Glass and Blues

We have an allotment! We have been on the list for some time and today we have come to the top. We have a starter plot, one third of a proper plot, to see how we go. We are on trial for 3 months and are very excited to get started and to be a part of this vibrant community. As you can see, there is some work to be keeping us busy.

Sadly, because of the Covid situation, the gallery where I have had my glass is closing. We are a co-operative and haven’t been able to open since the March lockdown. Today, I went to collect the pieces that were first put into the gallery for Valentine’s Day. Something good came out of this sadness though – I was so pleased to see my work and to remember how pretty it is and the fun I had making it all, that I am re-inspired to get on with more making!

As we were so close to the sea while near the gallery, we went for a walk along the sea front and just loved the blues in the sea.

Moth, Gate and Tunnel

I spotted this tiny, beautiful dead moth, covered in raindrops, on the path into town this morning.

I took a different turn today along a lane that has intrigued me for a long time. At the dead end were these rather interesting lichen covered gates over which I could see nothing but autumnal leaves.

Coming back along to join the usual path, the drippy tunnel took on an eerie air and the echoiness was quite something.

Engine House, Waves and A Happy Dog

A favourite walk today along the beach at Chapelporth and tonight another Thali with friends at the Eco Park – a lovely, almost normal, day.

Passion Flower, Honeysuckle and Cake?

It seemed to me like the back view of a huge green cat and  turned out to be a lovely Passion Flower growing up a post just outside town this morning. Look carefully, there is just one flower.

Up the road on our way home was this beautiful Himalayan Honeysuckle, Leycesteria formosa. I need to grow this!

We stopped off this morning at Home Ground, our favourite coffee shop in town. We had our coffees and our Portuguese Custard tarts and bought our lunch to take home – a Pepperoni Flatbread to share with a salad and a new cake, like an enormous Jaffa in a sponge with a tart orange filling and a wonderful chocolate ganache on top – and it was vegan.  I’m sorry I forgot to take a photo before we ate it all, to the very last crumb!  My plate is on the right. I have asked for the recipe but they buy it in so I am going to have to invent something myself. When it works, I will share it with you as it was Amazing!

Colour on Today’s Walk

A beautifully sunny Dandelion, a Clover that’s just given its nectar to a bee and an Autumny Ivy leaf in glorious colours with a single rain drop.

I’m better! The after effects of the flu jab have dissipated.

Joining in Debbie’s One Word Sunday today as I have spent much time in bed having a reaction (we think) to my flu jab yesterday. Had them for years, never had a reaction before.

See you on the other side!

Apples, Happiness and Help

A couple of days ago, the friends we met at the drive-in gave us some apples from their tree, Russets which are my favourites. There aren’t this many left now!

Thanks M&J who know how much I love this variety.

These words work for me.

In the words of William Blake, today “I told my wrath.”  I wrote to WordPress expressing my frustration and irritation at the Block editor and the circles I was going around trying to follow the instructions from kind blogger friends to re-establish Classic. One of their Happiness Engineers (!) helped me get Classic back and now I am much happier than I was last night! It’s been interesting to read of the same feelings expressed by so many other bloggers. Thanks, Mike!

More Walk and Another Lace Collar

On the new walk that we discovered yesterday there is a small stream with the sounds, ripples and reflections that I love – and some fungi.

I’m seeing collars everywhere, even on mushrooms as I prepare dinner!

For other blog writers – This new block system is driving me mad! I’m with you Arkenatun on the frustrations. I have downloaded the plug-in but it’s not the Classic as we know it. I am being told to renew my Twitter connection and then told, I don’t have authority to do that! I can’t add tags or categories….. I will win. I am an optimist and I will not be beaten……. Tomorrow is another day.
