Lambs, A Video and World Poetry Day

We have watched the lambs in the back field with great delight today. The lovely Mr S took photos and I attempted a video in the gale that was blowing. It’s a bit wobbly and very noisy – you can’t hear the lambs talking to their mums – but I hope it will give you a feel for the experience.

It is World Poetry Day today and here I offer you a poem by a poet I much admire. I love his imagery and sensitivity, his use of language and, in this one, his reassurance.

Today, Springtime Walk and A Recipe

Today is World Happiness Day and the Vernal Equinox.  In these difficult times, let me show you the lambs that appeared in the back field today.  It’s Spring.

It was a beautiful morning and we went on our regular walk, a short stretch of the Flat lode Trail. Please join us, especially if you are having to stay indoors, on this lovely full-of-Springtime walk.

A couple of my Dear Readers asked for the recipe for my Special Brownies which I showed you yesterday.  You and they, can now find the recipe here.

A Lane, Camellia and Brownies

We have a short walk just out of our front door that takes us down Church Lane, along Lovers’ Lane and back by an unnamed lane – fresh air and encountering very few people.

There are some remarkable Camellias across the road, they are saucer size!

Another treat made today and put into the freezer – my special Brownies, gooey and delicious.  If the treats aren’t in the freezer, they disappear in a few days – being frozen, they require some forethought!  We had each had one before I got the photo taken.

Repair, Mixture and A Field

I have repaired the little fish for our friends. I’ve decided to copy the pattern as it is a simple and pretty design. Watch this space!

I’ve made another batch of the Swap Shop biscuits partly so that I could photograph the process for my Recipe page (I’ll put it up soon) and partly to have it in the freezer ready for emergencies!  Here are the fruits ready to be mixed in.

Ginger, cranberries, smashed up dried bananas, raisins and slivered almonds

There are lots of fields in Cornwall full of Narcissi. This field is no longer picked for the market but the flowers keep on blooming.

WIP, Repair and New Woodland

I cut the sunbeams on this piece today and now it is ready to foil.

Friends have sent me this charming little fish to mend so that’s my next job. I’m hoping I can work out how to do it.

As we are all self-isolating and have been in contact with no-one else, we decided that to meet our good friends in their new woodland in the wind and to keep two metres apart would be safe enough…..   It was lovely to see that some of the baby trees are already leafing up. The shots are taken down the green protective tubes.

Sunrise, Ladybird and A Bee

It has been a glorious day and a local photographer caught the sunrise over St Michael’s Mount. With his permission, I share it with you here.Thank  you,  Kris.

We have spent most of the day outside in the sunshine which was actually warm on our faces – gardening, reading and soaking up the rays. A Ladybird joined us.

Our Pak Choi is still going strong and we are using the leaves. Does anyone know if we can eat the buds and flowers as one does with Purple sprouting broccoli ?  The bees have been busy all over the garden today.

Daffodils, Coastal Path and A Birthday

Our government tells us that in a few days, because of the Coronavirus, they will tell the over 70s that in a few weeks they should self isolate to protect themselves. With a warning like that, we and many of our friends are already self isolating. However, we are very lucky because we live outside the town and can walk out of our front door to be straight into the countryside . We can also drive to the coast and walk along in the beauty of our Cornwall where there are other walkers but no-one close by which was what we did this afternoon along a short stretch of the South West Coastal path.

Looking out to rocks from the cliffs at St Agnes Beacon – Does anyone local know the name?

On Radio 4 this morning, we were being advised that laughter is the best medicine and that, just as we should be eating 5 a day fruit and veg, we should be finding 5 things a day to make us feel good. I might have to upgrade MBT to 5 a day when I can.

It is Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s birthday. We first learned of her when she was a much admired Law Professor at Columbia University School of Law in New York, USA. My brother was in her classes.   Happy Birthday!

Border, Church Tower and Biscuits

The following is our view from the kitchen of part of our Spring border – Narcissi, Cyclamen, Tete a Tete, Fritillara and  Muscari, all topped by our comedy and tragedy sculpture.  Later the Clematis plants (just beginning to sprout)  will cover the trellis.

We had a short drive out today, passing by St Day Old Church and we stopped so that I could get a photo of its most unusual tower.

I made us a treat today. We used to call these Swap Shop biscuits as the recipe cam from that children’s programme when our four were little. I adapted the recipe as I didn’t have any Sweet Tea biscuits or Digestives to crush so I smashed up a few trifle sponges and used oats to make up the weight. I added slices of ginger and slivered almonds to the raisins and it is totally delicious! In fact, with all that fruit, the nuts and the oats, it can be considered a healthy treat!!

Muscari, Flowers and A Veggie Supper

The Grape Hyacinths in the garden are truly blue in striking patches all over the garden – and then there is this one……

Our friends brought flowers nearly two weeks ago when they came for dinner. I have refreshed them with some Narcissi from the garden and they keep on going!

Tonight’s supper was another of Nigel Slater’s Midweek recipes – Butter Beans, cabbage and mi-cuit tomatoes and it was truly scrumptious, again served in our gorgeous new bowls.

Blackberry Jam, Raindrops and Courgettes

I’ve missed singing again this morning, still sniffly, so to cheer myself up, I made Blackberry and Apple Jam using last Autumn’s pickings and freeing up some freezer space. It is always very satisfying to be creative.

Sunshine and showers again today and I caught some raindrops on the newly emerging tulip.

Courgettes (zucchini to some of my readers) dressed with lime to go with our Cajun Salmon this evening. I liked how the browning pattern is so pretty here.
